Was the right call IMO. I just can’t figure out the play call there. I understand passing it bc you know OM is thinking run and will stack the box. I was hoping he would use a TE sneak with Knox like we did earlier in the game (which was wide open). I don’t think passing was the wrong call but I do think you give KJ the option to run it in if the pass isn’t there

On the road, defense is completely gassed, and you’re gonna give Corrall and company a short field to work with in OT, yeah I’d go for 2 as well

it was the same play that we ran with the other option being the shovel pass. Wish we would have went with a speed option.

This was supposed to be a screen, and I think back to Rocket on the inside. it certainly was a run-pass option as far as KJ and Treylon were concerned, but not what the OL and Rocket were expecting...

there was some kind of mass confusion with the routes - AJ Green didn't look for the ball in time on his flat route, Knox seemed to be trying to set a pick, but for who?

But the main thing is, the OL was screen blocking. They are blocking downfield. This was not intended for Burks or Knox and Green. The only back it could have been for is Rocket.

Look at the Oline screen blocking, and Rocket sitting back to the inside ready for a throwback to the middle screen 16:16 mark

This. Same play that Knox scored a TD on. But Knox was completely covered this time. It looked like maybe the shovel option was open but I’m not sure what the read on that was

I don’t think it was a bad call fwiw. Isolating Burks would’ve been great but I don’t think they were going to allow that

Not sure what the play was supposed to be but I am sure Ole Miss blew it up with the quick pressure.

Either there was confusion with what the players thought we were running (which can happen at the end of a long game) or Ole Miss just detonated that play from the get go.

Hindsight being 20/20 you got with a sort of midline option of Rocket or KJ going "hey diddle diddle here it comes up the middle" but I can see where Briles thought that Ole Miss was going to go all out to stuff the inside run.

Kinda feel like the OL didn't know what the frick the playcall was. Some are doing screen blocks. At least 2 are 3 yards fricking deep into the end zone.

Even if we pull off the conversion, poor OL execution would have sunk us anyway.

I don't know why people are hanging on this at all. In my mind it was the ONLY thing to do. Why go to OT and give them a chance at all? Shooters shoot. Like the end of a CBB game. Give it to your best guy and tell him to go win the game. Doesn't always work out but it's the right move.

Rocket wasn’t on the field. It looks like the two options on the play were Green and Burks and I’m not sure Green was on the same page as everyone else. That was a pretty elaborate 3 yard play design.

I’m just surprised that Briles thought that play had the highest probability of succeeding from the three yard line. It looked more like a 30-40% conversion type play that you’d call from the 5 or 6 yard line.

Outside of the blatant holding on Burks (go back and watch it) and Green not being ready for what would have been an easy toss and conversion...yeah...not sure what we did wrong.

Going for it was 100% the correct call. The hold on Burks was..well..SEC cringe.

The hold was egregious I agree. That play brings in the SEC officials variable. Another reason the specific play isn’t my favorite. Oh well, the offense was great so no reason harping on it. Time to move on.

This was my point. Pretty elaborate play with young offensive players. I’d like to see KJ and Dominique Johnson as our short yardage package. Both DJ and KJ are bruisers that can pick up yards after contact.

You guys should be proud of your team and coaching staff. Pitt Boss made a gutsy call but he should have told the QB to let time expire and take a 5 yard penalty to give the passing game more room.

Going for the win was absolutely the right move. Not in love with the play call, but no one pays me to coach the team.

At any rate, we gave them all they wanted, and they are no slouches.

I'll take 4-2.

This post is unintentionally (I think) hilarious. You're not wrong that it was a play design better suited from the 8 yard line. That's not sound strategy though. If your favorite play is an 8 yard play you don't take the penalty so you're on the 8 yard line. You pick your favorite 3 yard play.

I like my 30-06 more than my glock but i don't keep my 30-06 in my nightstand. That's theoretical obviously because all of my guns were lost in a boating accident.

Why not just pound the same RB, Sanders, who had gotten what seemed like 7 yds every time he touched the ball??

Or at least fake it to him and have KJ run the ball in from the 3 like Cam and Tebow used to do at will.
