How has Drew Sanders looked so far?

Jimbo Fisher is effusive in praise of Arkansas linebacker, one-time target, Drew Sanders

quote:

“We tried to recruit the heck out of Drew, Drew was a great player out of the same school as some of the guys we’re recruiting now up in Denton, Denton Ryan, and he was a great player,” Fisher said. “We tried to recruit him, went to Alabama, and in the transfer portal and he got in it, I think we reached out but at the time we were way over.”

Like the most physically gifted player on defense we’ve had in a long time

Love to hear that. I am so looking forward to this game. Lots of Hog friends and Aggie family.

Who on offense do I need to pay attention to besides Rocket?

Not sure why y'all are saying that. We have been super blitz heavy through the first three games

And getting scorched in the secondary. I'm ok with living by the blitz and dying by the blitz but I think BP gave aTm a blueprint on how to beat us in the air. Hopefully we make adjustments and throw something new at them.

He’s by far the biggest threat but at WR I’d say Haselwood, we like to use him in the backfield as well. Great runner.

Also #6 Dubinion, freshman running back, has played himself into getting snaps. Really agile guy who can break defenders’ ankles.

If we can manage to even HALFWAY bottle up their RB Achane and WR Anus Smith, we win this going away.

I just watched the Miami @ TAMU game and their QB Max (Min) Johnson relies on these two almost exclusively when he's under pressure. But A&M's Oline is also very porous and the outgunned Miami d-line was getting pressure constantly. If we can get in their offensive backfield as much or more than Miami, which shouldn't be a tall task, we can make Johnson make mistakes and get plenty of sacks.

Odom will have to draw up a gameplan that brings nearly constant blitzes while spying Achane and Anus Smith with our best coverage guys from the LB and DB corps respectively if we're hellbent on sticking to man coverage.

Up to this game I've been missing the zone coverage on defense, but I think this is one where man works better if we can manage to get our best on their two best offensive threats. Johnson isn't a threat to air it out downfield to a WR2, WR3, or TE and 99% of the time single man coverage will work even with our weak secondary

Basically find a way to shut down Achane and Smith and we've shut down 90% of A&M's offense, even if there's a rare strike to an Aggie thrown in there that makes us pay for selling out once we'll just have to eat it and stick with the plan

This basically happened in last years game. There were a few plays on A&M's first two drives that made it look like we might have some major issues but we know how that ended.

Anyone have any idea which side is Arkansas at AT&T? Can’t find it anywhere and don’t want to catch the you know what.

I know that one is a given. Has he improved in his passing since last year. He is a really fun QB to watch.

I took the Over. Can’t decide if I want to take the Hogs. The homer and n me thinks we should win if we play our game.

He’s thrown the ball really well so far imo. But last week we had about 5 or 6 drops including 3 for first downs and one that bounced off a receivers chest into the hands of a linebacker, his only interception of the season

I feel like last week looking on the outside was just a lot going on maybe? Petrino coming back for family weekend and maybe looking ahead to the A&M game? Could you see that being a thing?

Possibly. The QB for Missouri state was a transfer from Utah who started for them in the pac 12 championship game in 2018 so he’s got some skill and he’s a vet. They also had an fcs all American receiver so couple that with everything going on around the game plus a petrino calling plays and 3 turnovers you get the game last week

Personally, I think the Mo State game was a bit of a fluke. Seems we thought (rightfully) we'd be able to line up and run right at them all day...so we didn't really plan for much else. BP being BP anticipated that and they tweaked the box and did a great job stopping the run. We were very slow to adjust to that, but once we did the game was really pretty lopsided. To win with a 3-0 turnover imbalance is pretty good. Had we been playing a team with comparable talent...we would have lost, but we also wouldn't have had what is essentially a pretty lazy game plan. My money says we WERE looking at a lot of aTm film as Pittboss fully realizes that this is a huge game. We can lose to Bama and stay in the mix...but we can't lose to aTm and hope to be in any top 15 conversations.

Yes, our secondary is the weak link. Always was and will be all year. I just don't see aTm as the team to exploit that fully. I also expect to see us to be all over their QB with hurries and sacks.

The Aggies are going to get their playmakers the ball fast and in space so best to keep everything in front and should be ok
