Looks like we’re going to have to burn Mac tonight. Hoping we could save him.

Sucks for McLaughlin but I don't really blame him there. Going for 3rd with 2 outs there is just not smart baseball.

I dubbed him “Underwhelmsmeyer” in the Woopig game thread. He proceeded to go 2-3 with an RBI and a run.

He evened it out with two completely useless dolphin dives. You're safe from ridicule.

Really good AB's from him. Worked counts, great eye, fouled off several. Need that from him.

I'd like to see Holt tomorrow but as cold as he his and vs Holman may not be a good idea.

That AB in the 7th where he drew a bases loaded walk was the best AB he’s had here.

Worked the count well, fouled a few really good pitches on 3-2, and didn’t bite when Johnson tried to go low and away for a ball 4 RBI (which had been called a strike a lot by the ump).

Some quick notes after 7 SEC games...obviously, because I post these notes we will for sure get no hit tonight and all these numbers will drop significantly.

In SEC Play, we rank the below in offensive categories after last night...

Batting Average: 10th
Slugging: #6
On Base Pct.: #7
Runs Scored: #4
Home Runs: #4
Total Bases: #4
Walks: #2
HBP: #2
Strikeouts: #11 (lower is good)
Sac Flies: #2

So, so far in SEC play the offensive numbers arent terrible. Good enough to win some games, not bad enough to think the world is ending. Quality at bats seems to be the theme. Lower number of K's at the plate while being #2 in walks and HBP is good. Power numbers are also up in SEC play.

I am sure you have noticed...but Aloy is creeping and creeping up with his batting average.

As I stated, since I posted these items I fully expect us to have a terrible offensive game tonight as a result. Sorry.

You clearly don't spend much time around our baseball fans. They obsess more about pitch counts and bullpen management than winning games.

I swear some would think an 0-2 in Omaha would be good because at least we will have lots of fresh arms for opening day

It doesn't help that the sports 'media' we have fuels this obsession

Aloy feels like this year’s Cali.

Guy who hit well in the fall, struggled mightily in early spring and had a ton of strikeouts, and then eventually found a plate approach and worked into a rhythm.

He still reminds me a bit too much of Slavens in terms of swinging at bad pitches and chasing low and away for a lot of swinging strikes, but he has great power.

He’s also quietly leading us in RBI.

I can't fully feel real good about this team yet. The offense and terrible base running is hard to overlook. I'm hoping the offense continues to improve.

If you aren't great on offense, you had better be great on the base path. We aren't, which is mind bottling. We make base running mistakes that Jaxxyn and Daultyn on travel ball teams don't make.

ETA: I think that my ultimate issue is how poor we are with RISP. I pin it on the offense, which it is, but our team average isn't bad at all. We just fail to execute with RISP and leave so many ducks on the pond.

So, I would disagree a bit here...we do have some things to clean up on the base paths, and those are simply...well...correctable. DVH was pissed about it last night and spoke to it in his presser.

My disagreement would be with...If you arent great on offense you better be great at....Which to me is defense...and this team has gotten progressively better on defense and is in the top half of the league in SEC games in that regard.

I cant spout off the exact year, but several seasons ago our staff were the ERA champs, but our defense was horrible. That staff set the school record I believe...something crazy below a 2 ERA or something stupid..I think we fielded around like .960 that season, or maybe .965 and we limped through that season because of how bad our defense was. I believe that staff had Stanek, Beeks, Fant, and Astin. So two major leaguers. That squad may have actually committed 100 errors...again, I cant recall exactly.

Not trying to rail on you by responding to the same post over and over again...but your edit was after my first response.

Regarding the RISP...the guys are hitting the ball though...we arent a huge K team at the dish...Yesterday, on a normal day, McLaughlin has a grand slam in the 3rd or 4th, whichever inning that was. Instead, it was just a sac fly.

Our guys are making contact, just seems to always find someone lately. I think Sandlot needs to get something figured out quickly...he left 3 on base last night. He seems to find a double play when he gets up with RISP. He also is last of the starters with a sub .900 fielding percentage.

You aren't hurting my feelings. I need input to hopefully put my mind at ease. I do think we leave a lot of ducks on the pond. I'm sure that stat is tracked, but I wouldn't know how to access it.

In regards to fielding, I agree. We are very good and that's a definite bright spot. I also hope we fix the base running mistakes. It has smoke coming out of my ears at some of the stuff we do. It's crazy that players at this level do the things we do on the base path.

If we can tweak just a few things, we could be in really good shape in the post season. It's still very early, so there's plenty of time to correct these things.
