We wont make it very far if that offense doesn't improve. For being the #1 team, that is horrible production behind the best pitching staff in the country. Almost 2013 all over again.

I think we rely on too much overachieving, instead of having better talent than the other top teams in the nation. The problem with overachieving is that you can run out of gas at the most inopportune times in a long season.

I don't see the offense getting substantially better throughout the year. I'm also ready for a change at hitting coach, and I say that based on a number of years of seeing Thompson as our hitting coach.

I posted this on another board, but reposting here since it’s relevant to this convo:

Unfortunately, I think this is likely who we are at the plate outside of someone doing a complete midseason 180 like Cali did last year.

McLaughlin, Stovall, Diggs, and Sandlot are our reliable hitters.

Aloy is Slavens 2.0 — a 3 outcome hitter who can hit the ball over the fence but is going to strike out on a lot of offspeed pitches, especially low and away (which was Slavens' achilles heel).

The outfielders (save for Diggs) are going to be crapshoots at the plate. Wilmsmeyer looks to be the weak link in this lineup.

White is the best hitting catcher but that's not saying a ton. I'm not sure he needs to DH on days where he's not catching. IMO that should be Holt or Souza depending on who’s in the field.

We're going to have to manufacture runs with free base runners, clutch hits, and capitalizing on errors and mistakes.

The "best pitching staff in the country"
decided not to show up on Friday or Saturday.

If not for a HR buy Helfrick we could've easily lost the series.

Base running blunders, allowing Rowland behind the plate along with cold bats was a recipe for disaster.

Lots of work to do before the SEC tournament and regional play.

If not for a triple by Holt we likely lose to Or. state and we were a hair from losing the Michigan game. We can do this forever but at the end of the day we won a road series against an SEC squad that probably fighting to host a regional this year.

Probably should include SOS in those stats. We're #6. 10erC is 150. Anybody can get fat on cupcakes.

If someone read the last page and half of this thread, and knew nothing about baseball they'd think to themselves "This hog team must not even be ranked."

Then, they'd find out we are #1 in the nation I do think we are overrated though. It's so weird to have a sport where we are given the benefit of the doubt and propped up by the pollsters.

Is this what being Notre Dame and Texas in football is like?

Just had a random thought - we haven’t heard an update on Ben Bybee in a while? So I was coming here to ask if anybody had heard anything but figured I better google his name first to see if anything came up.

Sure enough, I see an article that says he is starting them against UALR tomorrow.

Now I’m ready to see Dietz! Phil said on bases loaded this week that he expected him to pitch this week. I can’t see DVH trotting him out there in a close game this weekend but maybe if one of the games gets really blown open, we’ll see him. If not, surely next week in the midweek game.

DVH announces a shakeup in the rotation, with Molina and Tygart swapping spots. Molina will start game 2 and Tygart game 3.

Why does DVH hate offense. Has anyone told him with the NIL we can have both?

Molina is better right now for sure, Tygart may be pitching for his starting spot against Mac or Bybee.

LSU announced they are not throwing their ace Holman tonight and will instead save him for tomorrow night. I assume it’s because they want to keep him on his normal rest but I also can’t help but wonder if they are calculating they have a better shot of winning the series if their ace doesn’t face off against Hagen
