The misevaluations and inability to land elite guys there by Saban at the end of his tenure and in a couple years of Deboer has been a major reason for our defensive run game struggles.

Tim Smith (from the 2020 cycle), Damon Payne, and James Smith were all considered elite prospects out of high school. Many others were considered blue chip prospects out of high school. Our struggles on the DL are due to Freddie Roach and virtually no development within that group once they get to UA. That said, you are absolutely correct saying we have been snubbed by many (nearly all) elite DL targets since ~2017.

Our scheme under KW, imo, is also not conducive to stopping the run upfront or having the DL play as a single unit. Essentially, we need a superstar upfront to regularly disrupt other teams’ rushing attacks.

I got complexion for the protection and grew up struggling. I used to live in Elyton Projects right across from Legion Field.

A true success story. Been to Legion Field several times and that is the definition of a rough area. Good for you getting out of there (I'm assuming)

Going from this to a cult like devotion to white coaches from the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin is quite the life journey.

Some of y'all are hilarious. Nobody is paying Wilkin Formby 1.7 million. Nobody. These kinds of BS stories are floated by a representative or the players themselves.

Go look at our DL recruiting from about 2017 and forward and tell me with a straight face that it's been good.

As far as edge rushers go, Pierre has been the best player since Dallas Turner.

We had Turner and Anderson at the same time to put some perspective on that.

As far as interior DL go we have not had a single elite one since Quinen Williams.

Theres really no such thing as traditional DEs anymore . Especially not in our system. They are technically LBers

I think it's time to realize there's a big difference between elite talent and run of the mill so-called blue chip players. Bama used to get at least one elite, sometimes two elite players at their position per group. That stopped happening about 8 years ago.

The lack of school pride and loyalty means today's players will never be thought of as the stars from generations past

Very few came to Alabama because of school pride…even under Saban. Under Saban they came to be coached by the best and developed by the best with a very good shot at the NFL.
Even less players come to Alabama now because of school pride. They follow the money! School pride is at least 75% dead, maybe even more!

Oh for sure. Maybe a Brodie Croyle type every now and then actually loves the school.

Initially under Saban guys had to buy in...then when the results started showing, guys came because it was the best path to get developed and be a NFL draft pick.

I'm glad we weren't worried about Julio jumping ship for an extra dollar after his freshman season. If he'd been allowed to, probably would have "tested the portal"...but he wouldn't be revered as an alltime great like he is now if he'd been able to do so.

We might as well retire the "where legends are made" tag line now.

"Where Podcasts Are Made" just doesn't have the same ring though.

It's just so nuts watching the level of talent just at the running back position alone compared to 10-12 years back. I can appreciate that the offensive line this year can't compare to the lines from those teams either. Just as an example, Daniel Hill seemed like a guy who ran pretty hard when he got his chances. But I couldn't help but watch him and think this is Eddie Lacy if you remove all the qualities that made Lacy elite. Hill wasn't bad, he just had zero qualities that were next level. It's unfair to even mention guys like Henry or Najee in comparison to these guys.

players obviously don’t feel like they’re getting developed.

Because they're not.

Trench play under Kayla has been exactly what I expected from a semi air raid west coast bullshite ideology - soft

Even the QBs regress under DeBoer. Wasn't that supposed to be his department ? Come to think of it Penix transferred to UW.

This is the dumbest narrative I've ever heard, and its unbelievable there are people in our fanbase believing this shite.

Who are these people ? 12-18 year old kids ? Unreal

I can use my two eyes and see that Alabama’s top classes from 2021-2024 were not like his prime classes. Players that underachieved - even if they transferred - were all over these classes.
