He definitely made the right pick for his future by entering the draft and being a lottery pick.
If someone offered me 17 million over 4 years, I would at the very least be willing to give up both pinky fingers and a toe or 2 and I'm 50 years old. Suffice to say, I still have all appendages and a shitty salary.

With that said, if there was any year for him to dip out...it may be right now because I think next year is more of a "make the tourney" year than "make a run at it" year.
I think the vast majority of college coaches are pretty close to the end of their rope in the two big sports.

We didn’t see Sears setting up plays or looking to facilitate.
Sears was 2nd in the sec in assists per game.

Murphy is a decent shot blocker that's why I'm intrigued by him and he also is a perfect fit for our style in terms of rim running. He needs to work on his shooting though.
He wants entry passes and is actually pretty solid back to the basket/low post move guy. I think I can count the amount of entry post passes we have made in the past 3 years on 1 hand. If there is one kink in our system, it's going to be hard to land a dedicated multi faceted big because every coach we compete against will tell them the truth. Offensively you will only be utilized for lobs and deep penetration dump passes.

I'll take Rylan Griffen back in a heartbeat. He made the wrong decision by leaving but we all probably would've done the same thing at his age for a big sum of money.
Agree, 6'6" 2 guards are kind of a gold mine. He has his limitations and at times gets lost, but that wingspan alone improves your perimeter defense on passing lanes and help defense immediately. I assume he would rotate between the 2 & 3 spot based on substitution patterns.

He paid Dybantsa $7 million+. No way we pay that. Wright supposedly got $3.5 million. No way either does any legitimate work for that money. The House settlement is supposed to require accounting for all NIL money. We'll see.
What can government do? The name alone NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) infers you are paying these guys for their value as a commodity and not for the amount of work they are doing. The jackasses in Washington will waste countless hours of posturing, but they know they can't legally tell someone they can't accept money.

Could be Philon is still in play. Worst case scenario, we just had 2 straight years of a high usage point guard where we’re really running dribble handoffs from bigs and not really traditional PG facilitator shite. I’m pretty sure Bethea, Biz, and just about any guard with decent handles could run point in our system.
If Philon returns, all good.. Do think a consistent effective threat for dribble penetration and finishing is pretty critical for our offense to truly work. Sears and Estrada caught a fair amount of grief over the past few years for forcing dribble penetration, but the reality is, if we can't threaten the rim with guard play to finish at the rim or kickout, we become a pretty easy cover. I just don't know if I can see Holloway being able to carry that load consistently or against sizable teams, but as always, I could be wrong.

essentially our starting PG as a senior
Come on, Jq was 2nd leading scorer on the team that year behind Shack, was Sec tournament MVP that year as well. Herb at times was the offense initiator and brought the ball up and at times we ran isolation plays for him as well. Herb is probably my favorite all time player from Alabama, but he was not the starting point guard on that team

"If you think Mo is going to explode and be Herb 2.0, then great"
I don't really understand this sentiment to be honest. Herb was never really some statistical juggernaut, he just became very appreciated late in his career by people who understood basketball because of his uncanny ability to lock down anyone you put him on and still provide unbelievable defensive support to anything rotating around him. Offensively Herb developed some downhill driving by his senior year and could even at times run the offense effectively, albeit with a very high turnover ratio. All of that said, Herb was still not a super polished finisher at any point in his Alabama career. But he made huge plays in the moment.
What I think Herb and Mo both have very much in common is just great instincts and intangibles. From the standpoint of Mo's efficiency level going down with the more minutes he plays, that's logical considering per 40 minutes Mo averages 18 points and 15 rebs which borders on insane, while Herb's senior year per 40 was at 16.5 and 9.7 per which is also quite nice.
All of this said, I still think they are different players. Mo uses his body a lot more for offensive and defensive effectiveness and Herb was a master of using his length. The thing I liked the most about Herb is he didn't play defense to keep you from scoring, he played defense to take the ball away from you. There were countless games where he had opposing players so uncomfortable within 5 minutes of the game, they were just mentally removed from the entire game. I don't think Mo will ever have that attribute, but he has more of a smallish Draymond Green pesky, physical and frustrating style. He isn't a lockdown defender, but he can be trusted enough against multiple positions.

Under a microscope, Holloway seems to be the most concerning piece. If he is a starter we are instantly small, have a defensive weak spot to cover up and lose physicality. I love that the guy can inject instant offense, has a great shot 3 pt shot and a nice floater. But I would still much prefer he be coming off the bench his whole career. Honestly don't even know if Wrightsell is starter quality at the 2 coming off injury. It seems everyone else finds a hybrid wing/2 guard that comes in at 6'4 or better, shoots well and defends. Auburn got Miles Kelly, UT got Chaz Lanier, Florida got Will Richard, Aberdeen and Duke has Kneuppel. Obviously all those teams are talented at most positions, but our small below the rim guards seem pretty glaring in being the one piece that hurts us the most against elite comp.

Mo is never going to be Herb. I said before they ever played a game that Herb would end up being a better player than Petty who was the much higher ranked recruit. Again, I like Mo, and he can help the team, but he's pretty close to his ceiling already - plays tough, gets rebounds, pretty good defender. That's what he will still be when he's playing overseas.
Once again, I didn't say that he would be. I said Herb was a full blown project his first few years in Tuscaloosa and that as sophomores Mo is far more physical, has far better touch and has a better handle. Herb's best characteristic his first few years in Tuscaloosa was he had great length to cover multiple positions and he played hard. Herb developed into a very good multi faceted player.
I see Mo as much more like a Draymond Green type than Herb anyway. I was just responding to a post stating that Mo is nowhere near the level of Herb. As sophomores being the measuring stick for where Mo currently is, he is far better than Herb was at that time in his career.

Love Mo. He's not even close to the level of Herb.
He's actually far better than Herb was as a sophomore. Herb was very much a project still as a sophomore. People seem to romanticize Herb's career a little bit. Herb became a force the 2nd half of his junior, but his first few years in Tuscaloosa he had the touch of an elephant and would consistently launch layups off the backboard that didn't touch rim and miss bunnies. He wasnt a reliable ball handler until his senior year. He was solid defender but became elite his last few years.
I love Herb for the work he put in to become a force, but there were plenty of people calling for him to be benched a lot during his first 3 years

Herb had much better physical tools. I've never seen a guy Mod's size not dunk a single time in 36 games. He has great effort, but he's not terribly athletic.
I have seen Mo dunk quite a few times.

We have to hit some home runs in the portal this year. Lendeborg would be a big one, not sure where we are on his list, but he seems like a brinks truck guy. I am not quite as high on Williamson as others, looks very much like a finesse center to me when watching his reels and we desperately need to be tough in the middle, but 7 feet is 7 feet and he certainly can't hurt as a rotation guy.

I was referencing the fact that Walters, Griffen and Bradley were all guys we signed out of high school knowing they would need a little seasoning and we did the same with Cunningham this year. In today's Nil world those guys would have had a price tag as recruits. If you know a guy is going to need development and you are going to have to pay for it, why not just pay more for proven commodities as much as possible.

Williamson is hopefully a nice addition and glad to get him I think. Hard to overlook his extremely high turnover rate. He averages more turnovers per game than Sears on a much lower usage rate with the ball in his hands and it's against much less athletic defenders than he is about to see. People's heads were about to explode due to Sears turnovers this year and he is a ball dominant guard.
