They got riled up in my pj Washington thread on the rant.

Bama leads for top 30 recruit Davion Hannah.
BYU still for AJ Dybantsa. Georgia Tech gaining traction with Caleb Wilson.

All the best to JQ. He helped big with our winning 4 SEC Championships.

Damn it’s sad to see JQ being so hard on himself. He could definitely be frustrating at times, but I’ll always remember and appreciate all that he did to help build our program up to what it is and will continue to be going forward.

I would never consider JQ to be a failure and am sad to see he feels that way about himself. I'm glad he got some NIL money but hopefully this is a lesson to others that taking the NIL money to go to a school like Memphis, while your old program is poised to make a run in the tourney, may not be the best move.

JQ was a part of some of my favorite Alabama teams. I hate how he left the program but we ultimately ended up in a better place.
And I will always be thankful for his ability to live rent free in auburn fans’ heads.

If he is retiring from basketball in his mid-20s he either never really loved the game or his knee injuries have made a future career impossible. Possibly both. Either way it makes sense that his main priority was maximizing the money he earned from playing. To be totally honest, this doesn't really change my opinion of him though. Dude is a mercenary. He's not a Bama guy.

That's a tough critique. JQ left Alabama at the age of 23. He was a grown man, gave Alabama 3 really solid years. I think as fans we are all blaming players for acting like EVERY single intelligent and dare I say, responsible adult does. 23 years old and no NBA future. He sold himself to the highest bidder to help insure his future. We all do this daily. For some reason, I have really struggled to be bitter with him. Maybe it's because I thought in some ways both parties needed to go in different directions. That said, a lot of the most exciting moments in Alabama basketball over the past 20 years, he was a part of.

Changing directions... After watching that interview a while back, I was struck by the reality of some things Aaron Estrada said. Thought he was really gracious and seemed to loved his time here. He did bring up an interesting debate when he brought up Grant Nelson and mentioned how Alabama basketball really hasn't had many white players of star caliber in a long time and so Nelson was an important get
That brings me to a debate topic. Prior to Grant Nelson, who was the most recent white player who could really carry the load at times. Riley Norris had moments but certainly wasn't really a guy you could lean on, but im going to go with a guy who could really be a tank until injuries took him out and he finally just retired before finishing his Alabama career. Jeremy Hays, by the end of his junior year he had really developed into a force and had a nice low post game, rebounded well and was a good enough defender. Would have loved to have seen him healthy his senior year.

I'm not bitter towards him. I don't think we make the Final Four with him on the roster. I don't fault him for trying to maximize his earnings either. I do fault him for negotiating in bad faith and the constant little passive aggressive pot shots he'd take on social media while he was here, but I don't hold a grudge against him or anything. It's over and done with and everyone got what they wanted. I don't relish the fact that he apparently feels like a failure when he still has his whole life ahead of him, nor does it upset me the way it would if Herb were to suddenly retire and express these feelings, if that makes sense.

Recent? There aint no recent. You gotta get in the way back machine to find one. And its probably our former coach.

I think it’s very telling JQ didn’t mention any of the teams or teammates but the “millions in NiL”
Very on brand. I really liked JQ but he’s the definition of a college mercenary. The post is melodramatic. You’re retiring because you’re out of eligibility and don’t want to play for the Shanghai Sharks.

Actually it would be Jim Farmer from that team if you are going that far back. He was a first round draft pick. I don’t think Gottfried was drafted.

Pile on JQ all you want but remember this...
JQ could've made money off his own movement (Jelly Fam)!
Nike (the big corporation) stole this entire movement and took money away from those guys.
So to the people who want to be mad about his NIL situation just remember the guy probably could've been a millionaire a long time ago.

What does that have to do with him agreeing to come back, announcing his return, then shopping himself out to Penny and trying to nickel and dime us?
I don’t hold any ill will toward him. I just don’t care about him at all because he doesn’t care about us. I’m not going to be affected by his pity party IG post. He can go whine with Penny and Memphis for $5 more.
