The bigger problem is JD has played a full year and really hasn't shown much improvement.

If (and it's a big if) he could cut down on the live ball turnovers, he would be having a really solid 2nd half of the season. He's been filling up the box score the last month or so.
Ole Miss - 18 pts, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
Arkansas - 11 pts, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
Miss St - 7 pts, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Kentucky - 6 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists
Vanderbilt - 10 pts, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals
South Carolina - 10 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Texas A&M - 6 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
LSU - 12 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals
Of course, the problem is
Ole Miss - 2 turnovers
Arkansas - 6 turnovers
Miss St - 3 turnovers
Kentucky - 2 turnovers
Vanderbilt - 5 turnovers
South Carolina - 3 turnovers
Texas A&M - 3 turnovers
LSU - 4 turnovers

On a different note, looking at the current top 25, we have beaten:
Gonzaga #1
Baylor #3
Tennessee #9
Arkansas #15
Houston #18
For a hypothetical, if we played any of those 5 teams right now on a truly neutral court, who do we beat and who beats us?

My main concern with JD going forward (if there is a going forward with him) is that from my perspective a ton of his turnovers are the result of his athleticism just not fully translating to this level of basketball. For all of his other physical gifts, his first step in the half court just kinda sucks and he's totally lost when his drives get cut off.

I think we’d definitely lose to Gonzaga and Baylor. I’d feel really good against Houston and I think it’d be a tossup for UT and Arkansas.

Well, we've proved we can beat them and it's possible to do it again for sure, but we can also lose to all 5.

Good stuff, George. Like Tom in the post above yours, I was wondering how it translated to usage rates as well. Surface numbers never tell the whole story which is why I appreciate the analytical/efficiency metric versions of them so much more.

I knew his numbers were bad but this adds a whole new perspective, thanks for posting.

JMO, but i'd say our win probability would be something in the neighborhood of:
Gonzaga - 20%
Baylor - 35%
Tennessee - 50%
Arkansas - 50%
Houston - 50%

Thanks. From a coaching stand point, I think it's interesting to see which teams have been able to improve and which have regressed.
I know part of it is affected by injuries or getting guys back but that's part of the coaching aspect as well.

Vanderbilt is -9 against Georgia tonight. We get the winner tomorrow night.
Missouri is -4 against Ole Miss. LSU gets the winner tomorrow.

quote:The problem with this comparison is that most of those other guys played more minutes than JD and JQ (JD especially), so you'd need to break the numbers down by turnovers per 40 minutes to get a better picture statistically.
A lot has been said about the amount of turnovers that the Alabama lead guards have had this season, but after looking at the numbers, JD Davison and Jahvon Quinerly have turnover figures that are in line with a number of former Alabama ball-handlers
Even then it's a bit misleading because those other guys were all primary scorers, averaging 18-19 points per game, so they were naturally putting themselves in more positions to turn the ball over (charges, steals while driving the lane, etc.).
EDIT: Looks like SOG addressed it

March Madness: Wednesday’s conference tournament breakdown
We’re well into the second week of conference tournaments, which means we’re already into the second week of “March Madness.” Most of the “lesser” conference tournaments began last week; those are the conferences in which you must win your tourney to even get into the Big Dance. The pressure is immense, and a marvelous regular season can mean nothing. There are a handful of those tournaments this week, too.
Here’s a look at the 11 tournaments that start Wednesday (including four one-bid-league tourneys). (Here’s a look at the complete conference tournament schedule. All hail March Madness.)
SEC
When: Today-Sunday
Where: Amelie Arena, Tampa
TV for final: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, ESPN
Regular-season champ: Auburn
Format: All 14 teams qualify. The top four seeds get byes to the quarterfinals. Teams seeded 6-10 get first-round byes.
Projected NCAA bids: 6-7
The buzz: Six teams are locks: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU and Tennessee. Auburn and Kentucky are in the mix for a No. 1 seed, and Tennessee could get a No. 2 if everything breaks exactly right. Arkansas has a great shot at a No. 4. Thus, four of the top 16 seeds could be SEC teams. If Florida can get to the semifinals — which would mean beating Texas A&M, then top-seeded Auburn — the Gators have a legit shot at an at-large; if the Gators get to the final, they should get in the NCAAs. The same goes for Texas A&M, too, though. Nobody else has a real shot at an at-large.
The pick: Kentucky
