The FOGs definitely took my bait in the JD thread.

If this season has taught me anything it is that NET can be just as flawed and stupid as RPI. There seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason to when teams rise or fall.
There really should be an open source algorithm, if there something that'll be used a reference during the selection committee. It's pretty fricking dumb. I like a committee, because a perfect formula is probably impossible. But give something anyone (with capable math skills) can pull out a pencil and calculate it.

Most memorable moment of my 4 years on campus. Pettway hits layup…I storm court to Rod Grizzard and give him the side hug congrats (he was closest player to me at the time).
The loss to Kent St was just gut wrenching after that, especially when you could easily tell our coaches were getting worked. No offensive scheme, horrible out of bounds plays (if you can call them that), etc. The diff between our 02 SEC Champ team and last year’s team, we actually had a fighting chance in the tournament due to competent coaching!!! Thank God for Oats!!!

You caught more then FOGs. Hell, I almost took it. It was pretty damn convincing. I almost replied. But then I thought, "wait a second, I recognize him. He's not retarded."
It's gotten FOGgy around these lately.

Ever wonder which players have played against the toughest competition?
Here are the players who have faced the strongest opposition, based on the average Bayesian Performance Rating of opponent players faced on each possession

That should be a great stat for NBA scouts. Gotta believe it's making them better players too.
I think JD is really starting to figure out what he can do against this level of competition.

Pretty wild stat.
While essentially the entire Alabama team is on that list, there only appear to be just two other players representing the entire remainder of the conference.
I hope this regular season experience carries forward in a positive way heading into the tournament, but at this point nothing would surprise me.

No idea, but Warren Nolen currently has it Arkansas -1 (Alabama +1).

No way Arkansas will be favored

It’s absurd that we have made 24 games into the season and have only played 3 or 4 games against non-tournament caliber teams.
Of course, we lost 2 of those. (Ugh)

I would guess Bama by 2 or 3.
A guy on the SECN said the Hogs have trouble defending great guards. Fingers crossed

I hope Oats learns to dial it down a bit with the OOC schedule. It's not 2013 anymore. The SEC is an extremely tough league these days and you aren't setting yourself up to be on the wrong side of the bubble by scheduling a handful of gimmes in November and December.

Scheduling doesn't seem to be hurting us. Not sure I'd change a thing.

I'd like to see us play two noncon true road games against a couple of middle of the road high major teams. Couple of games that we should win, but that will give us some early season experience on the road before conference play.

I agree. Us beating Gonzaga and Houston has basically been what has kept us firmly in the field despite the struggles. I love the scheduling.

Yeah. I'd like to see us in a tournament with a strong field, a couple of home and homes with middling power conference teams, a neutral site against a top opponent, and then replace a couple of those SDSU, La Tech, and Oakland type games with some crappy SWAC type teams so we can get kids like Holt a lot of minutes early in the season.

On the other hand, even with a 9 game winning streak, Arkansas is only 32 in the NET because of a terrible non conference schedule. Mississippi State is really a good team with a decent record, but they have no shot at the tournament unless they win the SEC tourney for the same reason, 56 in NET. In retrospect, I think somehow Oats got this team to believe that Oakland and South Dakota State and La Tech were good ( and they are good) because we play to the level of our opponent this year. I'm afraid we could easily lose to bad teams - like Ga and Mo.

We can still have a legit OOC schedule without having far and away the most difficult one in the country. There is plenty of middle ground there.
