I was told by a very reliable source that Alex Tchikou isn't performing well and to not expect him to play much this season. That was at the beginning of the season. I don't usually like releasing this kind of stuff because they are just kids, but since this is being asked so much, I figured I'd let y'all know.“

I also remember Coach saying he had been practicing better. Look some of those stat lines you could put me out there and get the same results. I watched Tchikou's highlights and he's not Moussa Gueye, he has some game. Maybe he can't grasp what it is they do but hell Bediako struggles with some of it.

With our luck, he transfers to Starkvegas and makes us pay.

Alabama #27 in this weeks AP Poll

Davidson moved in at #25, so can't get too mad about that

Even more comparisons when you consider Auburn partly went on that run because they got hot from deep.

It might not have been an unreasonable argument, but it was a wrong one.

It would probably have helped if Burnett hadn't gotten injured. But, we lost a ton of length and experience and replaced it with guys we very generously list as 6'2" - 6'4". And most of them either can't or haven't learned to be tenacious defenders.

On another note, I'll say again, I know Nate doesn't like to press, but I think it would be a huge help for this team in a lot of games. For example, I think we would have beaten Davidson by 20, if we had pressed them a lot.

They'd do us a HUGE favor to keep us out of the Top-25.

After seeing what we did the last 5 minutes versus Missouri by extending our defense to the half-court line, I would expect us to at least try more of that.

I don't know how much was opponent specific with Missouri not having a true point guard, but we were FAR more disruptive picking up the ball at half-court than we have been all year picking up our defense around the three point line.

I'm fine with us not being ranked for another week, but my God, there isn't a bigger fraud in the country than USC.

16 games into the season, they have played 5 games versus the NET Top 100 (3-2), and 2 games versus the NET Top 50 (1-1).

Their wins:

#47 San Diego State (Neutral)
#62 Washington State (Away)
#87 Colorado (Away)

Their losses:

#49 Oregon (Home)
#93 Stanford (Away)

They are ranked #15 in Week 12 with THAT resume!!!!

FOR WHAT?!

Knowing what we know now? Yeah it definitely was. Especially, like you said, in light of Burnett getting hurt. I just don't think it was crazy to be optimistic about guys like Ellis, Miles, and Gary offsetting the loss of Petty and Primo in their increased roles. Expecting Herb's loss to not be felt was just objectively stupid. To me the biggest disappointment, by far, on that end is that JD has proven to be a total matador instead of the elite athlete who is going to alternate between high level defensive play and freshman mistakes that I expected him to be. You can survive one guard who sucks on defense, but it's almost impossible to overcome two or more unless you have some all-everything rim protector playing behind them. We knew Shack and JQ would never be any good on that end. They're too limited by their frames, and Shack just isn't a great athlete. So yeah, losing Burnett has been a massive gut punch to this team.

USC is definitely still living off their tournament run and that arse blasting they gave Kansas last year. They haven't played anyone, but teams who are perceived to be good in the pre-season need only continue to win to keep up that perception.

Yea - I mean, you could make a similar argument with Houston (though I think even depleted that Houston is a very solid team).

They've played 14 Q3/Q4 games and are 14-0.

They've played 5 Q1/Q2 games and are 3-2.

Hell, you could do the same with Kentucky at this point.

They've played 11 Q3/Q4 games and are 11-0.

They've played 8 Q1/Q2 games and are 4-4.

I agree.

When you’re giving up 1.6 ppp to Missouri, it’s officially time to try something new

Juwan Gary Still Day-to-Day, Nate Oats Gives Update on Alex Tchikou, Keon Ambrose-Hylton (SI)

Gary suffered a facial contusion last Wednesday against LSU and has been unable to participate in live practices since that date.
quote:

“Juwan is still day-to-day,” Oats said. “Didn’t do any of the live stuff in practice today. They’re just trying to let the facial contusion heal. I think we’ve got the face mask, so it’s one of those deals as soon as he and the trainer feel comfortable that he can go out there without risking anything further happening or deal with pain of it — getting hit through the face shield — he’ll be able to play.

"But he has not practiced any of the live stuff yet.”

All the people complaining about how terrible the environment is in Coleman now never went to a game during Gottfried's final 1.5 seasons. It was about as rowdy of an environment as a AA private school game.

Yeah, I'm not too down on the season overall. However, you can go back and read the old posts where most who predicted that the defense wouldn't take a big step back predicated that on JD forcing his way into 30+ minutes due to defense.

Sustained concentration and maybe some tweaks to pressure may help but the defense is kind of what it is.

To finish strong enough to keep in the 5 seed area and have a shot at 2 or 3 wins in the Dance mainly depends on whether we start to consistently hit 33% of our 3 point shots. JQ getting on track would do wonders for the offense really firing on all cylinders.

At least that way, we're going to continue to be a danger to do what we did to Gonzaga or Houston to anyone.

I'm wondering how long before Luke Yachlich gets fired before Oats can make a run at him for his staff.

If the season ended today Auburn, Alabama and UAB would all be in the NCAA Tournament in all likelihood, and JSU and USA are contenders to win their leagues.

NET Rankings - Alabama Teams
5. Auburn (18-1)
20. Alabama (13-6)
36. UAB (14-4)
117. South Alabama (10-5)
123. Jacksonville State (10-6)
164. Troy (10-6)
