I know JD has been disappointing for a 5 star and he probably should be back next year, but I’d almost bet money when he gets to the combine, he will turn beads and still be a first round pick.
I disagree. Unless he gets much better this season, I'm afraid he'll be disappointed. He has too many areas (most obvious is decision making) that need noticeable improvement before he'll turn heads at the combine.

Nate needs to look in the mirror. If your players aren’t tough (and I agree they aren’t) that’s a reflection of you as a coach and/or a recruiter.

That is the biggest problem. As a team we are not shooting well. There is not a great deal the coaching staff can do about it. Is it frustrating, yes. You would think this forum consisted completely of FOGs, the way seemingly everyone is proclaiming the end of the world. There is not a lot the coaching can do about it. At this point it is more mental than anything else. I am happy that if this has to occur it is happening now not in March. I have had season tickets since 1975 and have spent seven years before that as a student at UofA. I disagree with the chicken littles of this board. The sky is not falling but it is going to be hard to weather this storm. How about some positive energy for the young men who are playing hard if not as well as we had hoped.

Shooting is certainly a huge part of it.....but it's definitely not the only issue. The guard play in general has been a disaster. We've a very bad defensive team.

We HAVE to shoot well to win games to compensate for the defensive issues.

Quite unbelievable that we can go from beating Gonzaga and Houston to 7th place in the conference. What a collapse.

Agreed. All hot shooting does is help mask your inefficiencies in other areas. If you can defend and rebound and get 50/50 balls you don’t have to make as many shots and you can still win.

Over the last month was are 315th in D1 in 3PT shooting % (28.2%).

300th in defensive rebound rate.

Yeah. I mean JQ hasn’t made them much all year compared to last season and Shack is just super cold right now.

That's not a slump. That's just a team full of bad shooters.

And much of the rebounding woes can be pinned directly on the backcourt. JQ, JD, and Shack are turnstiles on the perimeter, causing whoever is down low to help over to prevent a layup every possession. So what happens on a lot of sets is the guard penetrates, misses a shot over the help defender, and the guy the helper was guarding just grabs the miss and puts it back.

All we have to do is make the tournament. UCLA and Oregon St made the elite 8. Wouldn't have guessed it based off of their regular season performance. Just wait, looking forward to the dicksucking Oats and Co again.

Yep - I dunno what the ducttape answer is, but I know we can't just keep throwing the same guys out there and have them play the same defense the same way.

Personel, zone, sagging man, etc. I dunno. But we've reached the point where you have to try something.

I suspect this is why Oats started the Mizzou game in a zone. No better time to test out some alternatives than against the worst offense in the league. Unfortunately, there was no fluidity within the zone because we haven’t utilized it at all, so we just gave up open shots and went back to our normal defense (with no affect at all on Mizzou).

And we tried pressing and pressure a few times earlier this year and it was a total disaster.

Maybe this is just the word collection of defenders in Alabama history

A couple hours later and I literally have no clue how we almost won that game. Like who played well?

Maybe it’s a weirdly good sign for us going forward? I’ve got nothing.

JQ had a really bad stretch last year too. Maybe this is just what he does.

JQ needs to go back being the 6th man and if he has a problem with that he can sit at the end of the bench in street clothes for 40 minutes.
