I just wish this all wouldn’t have happened, mostly for the young boy’s mother, but selfishly to not taint probably the greatest season and player we’ve ever had.

He is the queen of speaking too soon. He does this like 10 times a season.

Are you saying he’s often … mistaken?

This may require the Summer of George analytical team, but I see we play aTm after they get to play on a Tuesday, and we have to play WEdnesday. How often do we play the Saturday game on a day less rest than our opponents have?

Did it this past week with Arkansas. They played Tuesday vs UGA.

Guess I view having to kick a player off the team for being connected to a possible murder as being related to our team this season. Brandon seems unfortunately caught in a really bad situation, and appears to have cooperated with all authorities. But he and probably 1 or 2 others will likely have to take the witness stand unless this goes the way of a plea bargain. Maybe “tainted” wasn’t the best word, but it’s definitely taken away from the enjoyment at least marginally.

quote:Frankly, does Alabama have an A team? I think the only reason football's admin and PR works well is because of Saban. Alabama does not seem to have very sharp people on board. I hope I'm wrong and someone puts my comments in their place. Are there still too many good ole boys still around? Is there a problem and if so, what is it?
I’ve said the same. We seemingly don’t have the A-team on this crisis management despite this scenario justifying it. This is the kind of shite that causes coaches to leave no matter how much you pay them.
OTOH, Byrne seems good, at least in regard to evaluating coaches and being proactive with contracts.

Unfortunately SoG is spending his efforts trying to placate the mob on SECRant by being the “voice of reason” from an Alabama fan’s perspective on the Miller situation. Seems to be going great. The old adage of give them an inch they’ll take a mile is in full effect. Lol
I’ll say it again I encourage all Bama fans to resist the temptation to engage this topic on the Rant. Those people are not interested in rational discussion. They want to see you either agree that Miller is a murderer or just use you as sounding board and amplifier for their defamation of Miller and hatred of all things Alabama. There is no in between. Engaging them at this point is just allowing yourself to be a patsy basically and validating their circle jerk.

In all sincerity, this situation has only increased my respect especially for Brandon Miller but also Nate Oats and the Alabama admin in terms of integrity.

Fvck off. I've barely even posted over there on this subject.
The only posting I've done is about what an absolute shite job our athletic department has done in terms of getting ahead of this and playing offense instead of being behind on everything and scrambling to respond on every front. And if you disagree with that then you have your hand so far into the sanf your hair is on fire. They've absolutely dropped the ball on this and hurt both Oats and Miller in their handling of it. And ultimately that falls at Brynes feet.
Haven't posted anything about Brandon or his actions. Don't plan to, because quite frankly I don't have enough information from what I've read so far to make a determination. I hope that he never read that text or read it after he was about to pull in and got caught in a whirlwind. If so, he doesn't deserve any punishment. If he read the text and knew he was taking a gun to an agitated drunk then he made a very bad mistake. But I don't know which it is and therefore have no plans to pontificate and guess and then make judgements on a situation I don't know the details on.
I don't think we've been sneaky of nefarious at all as a department. I think that would require being 2 steps ahead of things and we've been 2 steps behind the whole time.

The best move they've made so far is getting Saban and JT together to show support for the team. It shows some unity within the program.
I really hope nothing else happens, already getting worn out talking about it, if the pat down outrage didn't happen Saturday we'd probably already be moving on.

The police and DA sure as hell have enough information and they have spoken loud and clear. So to speak.
Go ahead and keep extending that olive branch to those wanting to burn Alabama to the fricking ground and see how that works out for you.

You do realize a person can post on tRant on a topic having nothing to do with off court stuff and get 10 posts related to off court stuff. That’s not SOG’s fault.

I haven't extended shite.
But have at it. Turn this basketball thread into the Rant Revolution thread for the next 3 weeks and we'll keep abandoning the actual basketball talk that this thing has been for 5+ years now.
This thread fricking sucks now. And this board has become a mirror of the rant, just the opposite direction. Good frickin riddance.

Sure, I posted a bit about Alabama basketball in a thread there earlier. Purely about basketball, decent discussion for a minute although the thread died pretty quickly because it was about basketball only.
SoG was actually in that thread abusing fools with stats as usual.

Jeez man, didn’t know things were so raw for you right now. My bad. I understand you have good intentions.
Eta: I apologize now for “calling out SoG” for his posts about this on the rant. I happened to have just seen a post where he insinuated Coach Oats was on the autism spectrum followed by a bunch of rival fans piling on Oats and it just rubbed me the wrong way. Oats has said a ton of right things through this whole process followed a couple of admitted missteps. But I see now it was like a total of two posts by SoG and then he was wisely out of that shite hole hornets nest. My bad.

There were approximately ~5 minutes between the text and the gunshots and he wasn't aware of the previous altercation, so it's entirely possible that he read the text, was confused about what was going on, and in his mind he was just getting Miles out of there. I think that or him not reading it at all are the most reasonable possibilities given the circumstances. The mere fact that he read the text isn't really indicative of anything anyway. We're talking about a kid from a middle class family in the suburbs. He's not some gangbanger who regularly gets texts about actual or potential criminal activity. It's completely reasonable to say he saw it and had a WTF moment before pulling in to pick them up a minute or two later.
Plus, if there was evidence to suggest he knew what was going on he'd have been charged. We can talk about what we don't know all day long, but we do know he wasn't charged with anything, which means there isn't anything pointing to him understanding what was going on.
