Well yeah we definitely shite the bed in that one, but I'm talking more about an overarching theme of the SEC being a bad basketball conference. It was absolutely there, and true, 10 years ago, but I feel like the Pac-12 and now the ACC have kinda replaced us as the technically a P-6 conference that plays like a good mid-major conference in terms of perception.

Last time I looked, Clowney was projected late 1st round
I'm torn on Clowney's future at the moment. He can probably sneak into the 1st round as of today but if he came back anoter year and showed consistency with his perimeter shot then he would be a lottery lock. Maybe throwing him a solid NIL deal will keep him for one more season but who knows, I do think it's a slightly different situation than Primo.

I've noticed Jon Rothstein has stopped his Nate Oats My Cousin Vinny tweet after wins the past few games. Still does slogans for other coaches but not Oats. Oh and he hasn't stopped selling the Nate Oats t-shirt on his site though. If you're going to be a coward and bow to the mob how about you don't profit off the merch either.
Not a Rothstein fan at all, but I haven't seen him drag us or Miller over the coals unless I missed it. I'm perfectly fine with him distancing himself from us on social media, in fact, I wish a lot of other journalists would. Even the positive comments are only bringing about negative attention.

Not saying positive things but also not being a disingenuous muckraker is preferred to the standard journalist protocol these days.

That's exactly what my thought process has been. Sure, he will probably be a late first round pick if he leaves based on what he'll show at combines with his athleticism and shot potential.
However, if he comes back next year and improves and is more consistent, he is a legitimate Top 10 (maybe even top 5-7) pick. Most of the time I'd say if you are a 1st round pick you go, but I think Clowney's upward mobility next year so is high that it's not the case with him.

Agreed. It’s probably going to come down to if Oats can secure him a large enough NIL deal for him to bet on himself next year.
Just saw Liam Robbins is done for the year. That blows for Vandy.

Probably going to have to hook him up with a really, really big NIL deal to have a chance to get him back if someone gives him a late first guarantee. That's a ton of money to walk away from.

Yeah, I would prefer that no national media say anything about us. Those guys are mostly blowhards anyways.

Depends on who you listen to. Ppl in this very thread have called the SEC trash.
Posted on 3/3/23 at 11:14 am to RMD
SEC is definitely not trash but would put the Big 12 as the top overall conference.

Rothstein hasn't dragged us and has actually been pretty fair in just reporting the news but let's be honest, as much as we drag our PR team...it's a bad look for him to reference My Cousin Vinny in this situation. I do wish he would take down the shirt from his store, that is still a bad look.

My opinion...
Stop being scared of what folks might say because at the end of the day they are going to say those things anyway.

I'm listening to the double dribble podcast that Jordan Harper does. That's a pretty decent podcast. I can't help but chuckle at how thick is accent is. Maybe it's because I'm down in Mobile. But the way he says the letter I in words really sticks out.
I'm not saying this to be insulting at all. It's fun to imitate. And it's not some redneck sounding, cracker arse accent. It's present sounding. But I would definitely pay money to hear him say "That's a nice price for ice."

I would love for him to come back but looks like most think he will be a first rounder if he comes out this year.

I would love for clowney to go mid first round in the next draft. Because that would mean he got his shooting touch back in the tournament. But it's the season we're over right now, I'm thinking he would be late first round to early second round. I'm sure the difference would be his exact measurements during the combine.

while a good shooting performance would help him, i don't think he necessarily needs it. nba draft now more than ever is a futures market. it's not hard to see why they're intrigued by a prospect like clowney, even if he's a project.
