I think it’s different with Saban. Kids came here to play for the goat. He’s leaves and they have doubts about the new staff. Turnover is going to happen going forward but this is an unprecedented situation.

No doubt

For the record the last 2 spring balls have not shown us much. It seems the last few years we get excited about how spring went only to be disappointed in the fall.

As long as these coaches can get the players playing cohesive in the fall I will be happy.

We have only been able to avoid it for this long because of Saban. There's no disputing that. I don't think that changes anything about the merits of the system though. Annual free agency is stupid and if any other league had it they'd all turn into total shite shows. Either treat these guys like they are professionals or treat them like they are amateurs. What we are doing right now is giving them the benefits of both without the accompanying downsides.

Agree on all points

The one way portal bit needs to be fixed though. Players elsewhere should be allowed to explore opportunities with teams going through head coaching flux just like our players are getting an extended period

As Nick said he sold Alabama as a place to create value for yourself. These guys are all making most business decisions about their future. You really can not blame guys for leaving.

We will attract new players and it will be a transition period. The jury is up in the air on how CKD will do, but no point in giving up before we even see the product yet.

Long term obviously CFB will change where players will be paid a salary etc.. but we are not there yet. Just have to deal with the hand you are dealt.

If you’re on defense I understand

If you’re on offense and you aren’t excited about the staff in place then I don’t know what to tell you. Go get your fast money I guess

Saban left the program with the ability to keep rolling.

I'm really not certain he did. I think the Saban effect on recruiting meant that our NIL situation is under-developed. That's not an indictment of Saban, but it is kind of one of Byrne.

Some of these kids are going to be sorely disappointed in their rookie contracts compared to what some of these schools are doling out in NIL money.

Also - we're gonna have a roster that still has a large chunk of dudes on it. We'll be thin, and we'll be playing a bunch of young dudes at some spots, but we're going to be written off across the board this year and still have guys left who can get after it. And I don't think anybody would disagree that we have a staff that can coach football.

So, maybe a little bit of us should revel in the new role as disrespected underdog. We're going to have a whole boatload of media folks picking us to go 6-6 or 7-5 next year. frick it, let's see what we got.

With you 100% on this. Losing great players sucks, but what’s the point of being mad? We can’t stop them from leaving, and my life doesn’t revolve around Alabama football anyway. I’m not going to let an 18 year old ruin my day.

The one way portal bit NEEDED (past tense) to be fixed. I’m going to be pissed if they fix it going forward because of what happened to Bama. Lol.

My guess is we will still have a stronger roster than what Deboer had this year across the board at UW.

Next season will be interesting. Still think we will have a strong team. I suspect we will be very active in the spring portal and some of this will even out.

Either way, I’ll be along for the ride.

This is exactly where I'm at, SOG. The melts of other teams will be glorious when we field a team that more than competes at a HIGH level and when they realize that 17 years was just the beginning.

I used to defend Bama’s fan base from the Rantards who said we were spoiled assholes and most of us were bandwagoners because of Saban. As someone who was going to games in the early 70s, this yanked my chain. But apparently they were right. We have a bunch of fair weather pussies who act like we’ve never seen hard times and come back stronger than ever.

I refuse to believe Bama is going the way of Nebraska after Tom Osborne. Roll Motherfrickin’ Tide.

All this attrition really makes me appreciate how great a recruiter Saban was.

How he was able to bring in, and retain, the highest caliber players in the age of NIL and the portal is mind-blowing.

I think we all need to recalibrate our success meter, and the quicker we do it, the more we can enjoy this sport we love. Beat our rivals, have a shot at a championship every few years and go see more games live because it will be cheaper! Roll Tide!

I have had some time to process the news today. Its bad, but we have new coaches that can and will teach the next man up how they want things done.
What Michigan did to OSU has caused them to break the bank for these kids, and you have to think like a GM for an NFL team, you cannot overspend. Even for a great player like Downs.
Our collective tried , our new staff tried. Next year was going to be difficult regardless of who the coach was going to be.
We just have to support the kids who are here.
