He was the right guy at the time to get the program from point A to point B.

Nick Saban gets outcoached 2 to 3 times per year. Most of the time, the talent can overcome a few questionable decisions. This isn't a potshot at Saban... there's no such thing as a perfect in-game coach... but every year, there are a few games with everyone but the concession stand employees yelling "WTFFF"

I don’t think he’s an elite Xs and Os guy, but he’s good enough. Plus that just isn’t his bag. You can tell he likes to delegate.

That said, my unpopular opinion is that Saban doesn’t really know what he wants to do with the offense and our last two OC hires have left a lot to be desired.

My other unpopular opinions are:

- We should break out the white helmets every so often.
- The Million Dollar Band sucks when compared to other bands.
- Basket Case sucks and always has
- The SEC should go back to 10 or 12. If we expand, get UNC & Duke. They’ll strengthen the basketball without making football tougher.
- The cupcake games are a necessity.
- We shouldn’t have built the South Upper Deck.

This is easily the worst idea ever expressed on this or any Bama football website. Congrats. You win.

I think Saban is one of the great defensive minds in all of organized football - literally one of the best defensive Xs and Os guys walking the planet - an expert of the 3-4 and a modern master with his own, very large branch in the Parcells/Belichick coaching tree. He's easily the most influential defensive mind in modern CFB. Watch some of the videos on youtube of him teaching defense on an old overhead projector. You'll change your tune.

Game day coach - he's very good but human. But he's the best recruiter who ever lived and a modern defensive master.

frick off with your hyperbole because what I was saying was this

quote:

Game day coach - he's very good but human

He’s not going to wear a visor, walk around with a huge playsheet, and go crazy while calling in innovative plays he just drew up on a white board. He’s not the best at drawing up plays in the dirt in the heat of the moment. That isn’t his best strength nor do we want that to be his strength. That also doesn’t mean he’s bad at it either.

So we said the same thing. If my idea was the worst ever to be posted on any website, then you are here with me in the pit of misery.

What sets Saban apart from other coaches is his development of players and the game week preparation he puts in with his coaches and teams. I agree he's not the greatest x's and o's guy on the fly, but he is one of the greatest during game week preparation. I think his blind spot is sometimes being stubborn to change his game plan when it isn't working. That's what made the call to play Tua so amazing. 2 years ago, I don't think he makes that drastic a change.

To add onto my comment...
The cornerback technique when defending 50/50 balls is out of date. If some of our corners were taught to play the ball instead of the receiver, we'd have a lot more INTs.

We'd also have a lot more long TD passes given up.

i'm ok with ending the ut series. even tho it's bigger than the auburn game here where i live.

i hate the wussification of football thats going on. but hey, gotta dumb it down so the girls can join and be equal.

Saban is a defensive savant if there ever was one. His ability to understand defensive schemes is unmatched.

However, he is the worst DB coach in the nation. How we have a stable if 5 star athletes who can't turn their head around and constantly get PI calls is astounding.

Sometimes no one has an agenda. Sometimes it's just fun to talk about crap.

But it should be easy to understand that calling Saban a bad Xs and Os guy is ridiculous. It's like saying Yoda was bad at the Force. C'mon.

But some of you think certain things about me and believe I have an agenda 24/7. I don't have the desire or energy to change your mind. I just thought it was a fun thread. But, again, believe whatever you want. Cheers.

I very much agree, but I do have respect for Holly Rowe - chick knows football better than most men.

We should use the white helments for the A-day game. It is a nice novelty that would help differentiate the sides.

I think Mike Locksley is a great hire and will be an amazing OC. I'm super excited about him.
