There are ppl too far out on both sides of the spectrum of this debate. Some feel Tua should play all 4 qtrs no matter the score and think Jalen is a toxic POS while others believe Jalen should take close to equal snaps and think he's one of the best QBs in CFB. Jalen should never come into the first quarter of a game and rotate with Tua at this point. No way. That is not how you handle starter/backup and there is no denying that it would be special treatment if that were still the case. When the score is out of hand then there should be zero issue to play Hurts. We have nothing to prove by running up stats and doing so only risks Tua health. Stupid to whine about it.

Jalen would not start anywhere that he wants. He would not start over Stidham. No way. The game has changed. You could bring back the 2014 offense from the barn and they would not have near the success now. Jalen would struggle with this current Auburn O. There are a handful of SEC teams he could play for currently. Hurts will struggle if he decides to go to another power 5 school. If he leaves he needs to go to a G5 school so his athletic ability will be able to take over. Like FAU for example.

I’m willing to bet not one person believes this. Not one. And there’s some dumb people on here.

You’re just making up shite to try and sound like you know what you’re talking about. Saban handled this perfectly and you all just need to shut up and deal with. Not sure why Saban being right eats y’all Alive so much. Baffling.

Think Gary Danielson was spot on why he thinks Hurts will stay.

Basically saying Hurts has really improved under Enos. Even as the backup he would get better coaching where he’s at rather then going somewhere that basically wants his running abilities.

I took it as GD was letting out tidbits what Saban has or hasn’t told him last week when he sat down with Saban before the aTm game.

Also said if he was transferring that Hurts wouldn’t be getting any reps during practice. He talked like like Hurts was getting plenty of reps.

I too think Jalen would be better off staying at Bama because he'd receive excellent coaching. But, I don't think that's what his family wants.

I assume there's no news this week? Jalen practicing as normal?

I still just find it difficult to believe he's going to use a year of eligibility being a "team player." I'm a team player too, but if I even had a remote possibility of making the NFL, I'd be doing everything possible to achieve that. I know there's some thinking that staying at Bama will actually help him. Maybe, maybe not. I just think most guys who are confident in their abilities (maybe this is a hint) would think they could go somewhere else, start, and impress NFL scouts.

If he's staying, great. I just keep half expecting to see him decide to not play any more games this year.

What makes you think he's not doing that right now? He's got one of the best QB coaches in the country working with him every single day to improve his game. He's taking quite a few practice and in-game snaps every single week. He's surrounded by NFL talent. He's already shown improvement in his ability to a) find the open receiver and b) get the ball to that receiver effectively.

What sense would it make for him to transfer now to a school who only wants him for his running ability?

As I mentioned in my post, I understand this is some people's thinking. I'm not so sure I agree with it. It sounds like biased fan talk. Like I said, IF he believes in his abilities, I'd think he would be confident he could go to a decent team, start, and impress NFL scouts. Maybe he's smart enough to know he's not very good?

Well, probably not much if that's the only places he thinks he can go. I, personally, don't think he's ever going to be a great passer. But, is that what he thinks? There's a ton of people on this board that say/said he could transfer almost anywhere he wanted. Again, I don't think that's true, but I'm also not the one that said Hurts had "created a brand for himself."

Either way, it doesn't matter. I'm not trying to debate these issues. I was just curious if there were any rumors or changes at practice. Apparently, he's staying, but if not, this will be the week we find out.

Jalen has become a problem. It's not his fault. I appreciate that he wants to stay, but he also has entitlement issues. He definitely wouldn't be "all in" if he was demoted to third team

In all reality, I agree that Jalen has hit his ceiling as a QB. He's not looking any better than he looked his freshman year. If anything, he looks worse.

Our backup snaps would be much more wisely given to Mac Jones, who could potentially develop into a real passing threat with more experience. He may not be as safe a bet as Hurts as a game manager, but Hurts won't get it done against our tough opponents anyway.

Does anyone here think that if Tua goes down, Hurts will save us vs. Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Georgia?
Hell no. Not with this defense, and not against the great QBs we've gotta face.
BUT Mac Jones might be able to if he was being given all of these snaps.

But let's also be honest. Saban is only pulling Tua so early because he's giving special treatment to Jalen. He admitted as much when he talked about his loyalty to Jalen.

I also think this situation is holding Tua back from asserting himself as the team captain and taking total ownership. He's gotta keep pretending that he loves watching Jalen play half of every game. It's so stupid

This has become a detrimental situation, and as I said before the season started, I wish Jalen would just leave.

It seems to be the smartest thing to do if you're in his position, would have been to tell the coach you are willing to play whatever position gives you the best shot at getting drafted. If that's QB, great, that matches up with your personal preference - however, if there's some other position on the field that would be better suited to your abilities, and if that position gives you even a small advantage in draft stock, you should do it and not look back.

I really think had Tebow taken that attitude toward his situation, he would have had a longer career in the NFL.

So being up 35-7 over Ole Miss in the second quarter and 45-16 over Texas A&M at the end of the third quarter is "pulling Tua early?"

Do you honestly believe the bull shite you are selling?

Saban is pulling Tua when the game is in hand because that is what good head coaches do to try and protect their best player.

Tua has asserted himself and taken ownership, he just doesn't happen to be a real vocal leader - that usually comes from older players. If you don't think guys listen when he is in the huddle, i don't know what to tell you.
You project your own hatred of Jalen onto Tua for some reason. He is happy and enthusiastic to see his friend and teammate go in and perform to the best of his abilities because that is the kind of person his parents raised him to be and he is a great teammate.

This psychoanalysis you like to do just doesn't have a basis in reality based on comments from Saban, the players, even Tua's own father if you read the article posted above.

I agree this is the best move for Jalen. It gets a season of solid training and come December becomes a free agent with a lot of top programs that will be looking for an experienced QB to come in. To be honest until we get to Atalanta(assuming) he could beat every team during the regular season. Put him on a team like FSU who will be looking for a QB along with a few others he would add a lot to their rosters.

I do have some concern though with him as he seems to be transitioning his style he does look a little uncomfortable.
