I honestly don’t mind Hurts getting the playing time.. I just wish we would keep Tua in until halftime. Just for his reps.. I hate that he can barely make it out of the first quarter. Just because not only for his development but also for the offenssive line. The line blocks and adjusts differently to each QB.. how Long to hold blocks and how each QB scrambles or calls blocking schemes. I know one said he gets that in practice but to think practice is like a live game is really showing one might have never played the sport. It’s a different ballgame when the lights come on and fans cheering

I agree with you. Practice is a poor substitute for live game experience.

I think he'll play more this weekend.

But there is an argument for practice against db's who can actually cover the wr's relative to live game reps against arkansas state for example.

Against strong defenses where he can get a lot out of it sure, but against these shite defenses where they are just playing madden against them - get some solid reps in the first two quarters then get him out of there.

I also think this weekend will be a bit different, but I'm not sold on A&M yet so we will see.

I think that we are all jumping the gun just a little bit thinking that the rest of our schedule is going to be 50-0 games at halftime.

The only games we have left that I see being like that are Arkansas, maybe Tennessee and the Citadel. I don't think we're gonna be up 42-3 at halftime this weekend. I think Missouri is good enough on offense that they'll at least force us to keep scoring for a while (unless they go total Ole Miss). And obviously LSU, State and Auburn will be wars.

I'd prefer to see Tua play like the starter until we decide it is time to pull of the dogs, but I think Saban wants Jalen to get a couple of series with the 1s vs 1s to stay sharp in a game that is out of reach but not 55-0.

Yu don't think the OL gets reps on their schemes with Jalen in there?

After reading the SDS article, I'm still not positive Jalen doesn't press the RS issue after his 4th game. Signs point to him playing all year, but I get the impression he hasn't discussed it with Saban.

I think each QB schemes differently... and scrambles differently. We have a kid now on our highschool team that rolls to the left and can take pressure up the middle. We have a back up who can handle pressure on the edges as long as the pocket in the middle is formed. Yes, the online is getting plenty of reps with Jalen but that wouldn’t relate exactly to Tua. Especially with it being a left handed to right handed QB and one who scrambles first compare to one who won’t leave the pocket as early. Same as RB’s, the line learns how to block for each RB in the game. It’s a lot more than just block the guy In front of you. It really comes down to learning each ones timing at game speed

I was thinking that as well Teague.. Its going to be interesting to see how it plays out. If Jalen does burn his redshirt.. than damn, what a team player. Hats off to him for being all in. I also think we do see closer games so Tua will be in longer. I’m excited about this weekend

Yea that article is kind of interesting. At least you know where Saban is coming from . Feels loyal to a man who is 26-2 and gotten you to two straight CFP appearances but also realizes that Tua is the best Qb for the team to reach its potential

I really don't think its much of an issue. Tua will start every game and will play until its out of reach and then Jalen will play. Tua will play as much as necessary when we get in to cage fight matches with the likes of LSU and AU

Uou know what would suck? Enos coaching up Jalen and he improves a lot, and then transfers to Auburn.

That would suck

Surely he IS going to transfer right? I mean, he wouldn't think he's going to win the job next year, or, please god no, have dual QB's for two years? That's why I don't understand him not redshirting. Unless he thinks he's going to get SIGNIFICANT playing time this year, it would be in his best interest to save a year of eligibility and use it at a school where he can start for two years.

I think Saban convinced him that the job was an open competition, and he thought he'd prevail. Now, when it's apparent even to Jalen that Tua is the better qb, I think he'll continue to play this season, graduate in December, taking this time to study teams where he could come in next season and start, and he'll transfer there.

As to saving the year of eligibility, I don't know. Maybe he thinks he's ready after next season to carry on with his life and career, whatever it may be. Otherwise, I have no clue. I'd redshirt.

I guess that's the most logical explanation assuming he doesn't redshirt. He actually did think he might win the job. OR, Saban told him they'd both play. Now it's obvious to everyone who the best QB is and Saban feels like he can't back off the "we have two good QB's who can help us win" shtick.

I sure hope that's not the case, because it's counter to Saban's contention that the best player will play.

Could be that Saban is giving Hurts this much playing time to keep him around till it's too late (hey, this is big bidness). I think Tua's playing time will increase in the tough games long as we're in danger of losing. If we are so far ahead every game that Tua doesn't get as much time as he would otherwise, I can live with that. As problems go, it could be worse.

I think if he burns his redshirt this year he doesn't transfer and stays at Bama. His long term future is coaching and he is going to soak up all he can from the best coach of all time and the best coaching staff in the business.

Also I think Tua wants him to stay and he probably will not say no to him.

it's what Saban plans on but not sure it's what Jalen plans on

Well, we do have two good QBs who can help us win. So he's not lying.

Regardless, how anyone can watch these first three weeks and not come away knowing that Tua is our starter and Jalen is our backup is curious. It's blatantly obvious.
