The barn has Pearl and Freeze. I wouldn’t care what the SEC thinks about it.

Well as far as dirt goes Freeze is the dirtiest cheatin-est coach I can ever recall in the SEC and 2nd place is a ways back in the mirror. So if they let him in as head I'm not sure who would be ineligible.

Pruitt was a great DC but there are some people who realize they have reached their level of most efficiency and thrive by staying there. Sort of how James T Kirk sucked as an Admiral, though he was great as a Captain. Pruitt should retire somewhere as a DC and he will be legend, or he can keep trying to be a head and be a failure meme.

As to the validity of this story, I'm pretty sure it's crap. I'll come back and apologize if I'm wrong.

I don't doubt that Freeze was dirty, but he managed to maintain some level of deniability. He was likely obtaining hookers for recruits, but was able to spin a narrative that the hookers were for his use. That made him look like scum, but not responsible for NCAA violations. Pruitt apparently did acknowledge that he violated NCAA rules by personally providing money to a player's parent. The saving grace for Pruitt, if there is one, the player was not a recruit, and he was acting out of compassion for someone in genuine need.

It always floored me that Pruitt was dumb enough to trust working for Fulmer. He being a former Bama player from back in the day should have known that you can't make a deal with Satan himself without getting burned. And seriously UcheataT? The big ugly orange, the butt chuggers? Auburn would been a more dignified landing spot compared to them.

Pruitt has always struck me as a bit of an idiot savant. Absolutely brilliant at calling a defense but a complete moron at everything else.

It isn't about what the SEC or anyone else thinks about it.

His question about a show-cause is valid. If Alabama hires Pruitt and he gets hit with a show cause, Alabama is subject to NCAA sanctions for the mere act of hiring him.

That's where the name of the sanction comes from - the new school has to "show cause" as to why they shouldn't be punished for hiring the person declared off limits. Even if the new employer avoids sanctions, if violations are discovered at the new school the punishments are considered more serious than if they'd been committed by a coach not under sanction. Schools have occasionally kept coaches that got a show cause. Nebraska kept Scott Frost after he got one over the summer.

Getting hired somewhere else is a different story. A basketball assistant named Rob Senderoff who got caught up with Kelvin Sampson is the only example I can find of an assistant getting hired at a new job while under a show cause.

I'll be very surprised if Alabama hires Pruitt before his NCAA case is resolved, but if it happens it will leave no doubt about how highly Saban regards his ability as a DC because it will be a huge risk for even someone with as much clout as Saban.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if we hire Pruitt before a show cause is handed down we’re not immediately sanctioned. That would be retroactively punishing the team for hiring an unsanctioned individual.

Now I imagine there’s a process to go through the cause and I’m not certain if that process allows him to finish out the year or if it would require him being out on leave/Golding taking over the second it’s handed down.

Was Bruce Pearl under a show-cause order when Auburn hired him, or had it expired?

I was thinking he had one in place at one time, but I may be wrong about that.

If we didn't mind spending the money, couldn't we hire Pruitt prior to any possible show cause, and make him a co-DC along with Golding? That way we could get the benefit, and still protect ourselves in case he is sanctioned later? If he is sanctioned, we could either move him to an analyst position, or not allow him to recruit for a time period. We would still have Pete, so worst case we wouldn't be any worse off than we already are.

No, you won't. But that's alright. I admit I don't know any of the context with which he said it, outside of he said it with confidence. He could have been bragging, he could have been hopeful, or he could already have it official.
