That anecdotal example I'm using is also the very point my post makes. The last several years Bama hasn't played with that "make his arse quit" mentality.
Yes, they got their arse beat by Utah. That game wasn't for the highest stakes available. Coming off a huge loss you could see players in that game having a don't give a shite attitude. That doesn't excuse it but you could see it.
This year, especially after the LSU game Bama played with no mental edge and it showed. They played with no leadership, and it showed.

Positives to grow on from '18... No longer does Tua have Jalen to look to, this helps his guilt from taking the starting job. He is "The Man" he now has to be responsible and know that the experience on the bench is really untested and may not offer a salvation should he take too many chances and not protect himself from injury.
Doesn't have to look back or read about Jalen; except for how he is doing at OU.
If it is to be achived "it is up to me" Tua that is.
And he has seen, up close and personal, the results if he is having a bad day; making pre-snap reads and not checking down, etc.... the game will be lost. And as the GreatSaban says, do not waste a defeat. And Do Not allow CU Loss cost you another win. Let it go, learn from it, and NEXT

I just don't see this considering, after the LSU game, we
1. Shut out MSU
2. Beat the shite out of AU
3. Had a heroic comeback against one of the best teams in the nation
4. Handled another top team in the nation with ease

The "last several years" saw us win 4 SECCs, 2 NCs(1 play away from winning a third) and 95 percent of our games being complete arse kickings.
I respect your opinion, but the math just doesn't add up for me to accept what you are trying to argue.

I 100% believe Savion Smith faked his injury.

Savion was just a weird deal from the beginning. He seemed like a bit of a bad apple, and I can see why LSU fans weren’t sad to see him go. Glad we have Diggs back in that spot now. Diggs and Surtain could be one of the best CB combos in the game next season.

Diggs is my guy. He's like a defensive Kenyan Drake - awesome but oft injured.

We can just agree to disagree. Something was off with this team late in the year.
I believed it before Saban's rubber chicken dinner speech. His comments only validated my thoughts.

And if you were in the stadium to see him run back out on the field, you are even more likely to believe this.

Combination of young coaches who could recruit and didn’t understand X’s and O’s. Anyone with half a life of coaching would have recognized Savion was the target and to blanket him the entire game, period.
I was never impressed by the Lupoi promotion from day one.

I agree. I think it was new coaches and injuries.

injuries
Injuries have cost Bama two national titles,a SEC Title and 3 straight undefeated seasons the last three years.
A completely healthy Bama beats Clemson two years ago and this year and beats Auburn in 17.

You are absolutely right!

Was just thinking about Bama's first natty under Saban 10 years ago. Then I realized that Bama does very well the last year of a decade.

Yes and Saban has won a majority of his National Titles at Alabama in odd numbered years

I’ve been told the coaches believe it as well, along with some players. Hence his departure to the draft.

Thank you! I've been waiting for someone to put this in writing and post it. This is exactly what Saban needs to get figured out this offseason and discuss with Sark and PG. It seemed that we not only played without the Alabama Factor last year, but also without a clear strategy of what were trying to do during the game. As a result we lost the balance that Saban always preaches.

Alabama-The Home for Wayward Coaches
With Major coming on board, what exactly do all these offensive analysts do? How much input into the weekly game plan do they have. I cant imagine any OC would want a bunch of ex coaches questioning his planning.

Analysts at Alabama, whether offensive or defensive, are tasked with certain responsibilities. Some are tasked with gameplanning 3rd down. Some are tasked with gameplanning the red-zone. Some are tasked with analyzing the program from 10,000 feet and reporting the findings to Saban. Some are tasked with self-scouting.

This, by design, could never happen. Offensive analysts are there to make life easier for the Coordinator by taking certain things off his plate, not criticize his gameplan. Self-scouting is an obvious exception, but it's not criticism per se - it's identifying tendencies and weaknesses. It's helping, not tearing down.
