Nebraska looking for a replacement

Bill O’Brien, Alabama offensive coordinator

O’Brien and Trev Alberts have a connection dating back to O’Brien’s days as an assistant at Georgia Tech. We hear Alberts has great admiration for the rebuilding job O’Brien did at Penn State. O’Brien did outstanding work stabilizing PSU, going 15-9 in two seasons before returning to the NFL. Alberts knows Nebraska doesn’t have the same problems Penn State did, but it’s a program that needs a major overhaul. O’Brien displayed real leadership when he arrived in Happy Valley and helped build the foundation for a turnaround. It also doesn’t hurt that since returning from the NFL, O’Brien, under a few seasons with Nick Saban, helped groom a Heisman winning quarterback in Bryce Young and is playing a key role with an Alabama team that is a strong national title contender.

They probably need him right away.

Bye BOB.

Nebraska, if you take BOB, we owe you one.

Please take him from us, PLEASE.

Losing an OC during the season wouldn’t be ideal. Do we have any stud offensive analysts that have had playcalling duties in the past?

We’re not that lucky and Nebraska… probably isn’t that crazy.

Most likely we have 2 or 3 of them in the intern room.

I’d rather anybody posting in this thread run the offense instead of Bill O’Brien. Anybody who could get the ball snapped in the first 30 seconds of the play clock would be cool with me.

Yes. We'll even pay his buyout.

i'm thinking BOB would be pretty much what the dr ordered for UN. doubt he would ever get them to the cfp, but right now they need someone that can right the ship and put it on a good path. no doubt BOB could do that.

I doubt he has one. But if he does, I've got 5 on it.

I think it'd be similar to what BOB did at Penn State, those were messy times for PSU, but Bill led them to being decent.

He's been in that situation before, and me thinks he could do it again.

Until we get rid of BoB, our offense is going to struggle in big games. We'd be better off with an interim till the end of the season and hope Saban hires a better OC next time.

I feel pretty confident Saban and BoB agreed on 2 years and BoB will will leave after this season.

Any thought that BoB is leaving before the end of the season is a fever dream, though.

Bryce calling plays at the line with tempo would be more effective than whatever BoB is doing, IMO

I think thats what's actually happening when we go tempo and the results speak for themselves

I have the same suspicion. It was like a completely different offense out there for the end of the 4th against Texas

Maybe. There is so much time left in the season, that you may not want O’Brien trying to recruit in the critical stretch leading to early signing. That’s especially true since Nebraska is going to have to recruit national for talent. you have a serious conflict of interest here, doubly so given the need for elite talent everywhere in Lincoln.

Likewise, if they hire him he may want to get a head start on trying to feel out a staff, save the recruiting class Frost was working on, and otherwise starts trying to put together a program. It’s been a decade since he ran his own college show.

Just wait until they get turned down by other coaches.

Would like to see Joe Brady get a shot as a CFB OC.

I'm pretty sure he's put an end to his college career unless circumstances force him to do otherwise. Scuttlebutt has it he vastly prefers working in the pros.
