I agree . Disappointing bc the season had so much promise before all the injuries but I won’t be upset if we are left out. Had our chances. Just finish strong and let the chips fall where they may

In a scenario where LSU beats Georgia – therefore knocking the Bulldogs out of playoff contention – who will earn the fourth and final playoff spot? As it stands right now, it’s going to come down to No. 5 Alabama and No. 6 Oregon. The debate has already begun concerning the two teams.

Both teams have just one loss as the Crimson Tide fell to No. 1 LSU while the Ducks dropped a close game to No. 15 Auburn in their season opener. Seeing that Auburn is a common opponent for the two teams, that may turn out to be the deciding factor. If Alabama is able to take care of business against the Auburn Tigers – something the Ducks weren’t able to do – the Crimson Tide may get the nod and be selected to the No. 4 seed.

But something the Ducks could end up having – if they beat No. 7 Utah in the Pac-12 championship – is a top 10 win, a feat Alabama doesn’t have this season. Plus, a win over Utah would ensure Oregon a conference championship, another resume booster the Crimson Tide won’t have.

This debate seems like it’s just getting started. Alabama and Oregon still have a lot to prove over the final few weeks of the regular season.

The article summarizes the situation very well. Per Yoggi Berra, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings". Since we don't play Oregon, it's all going to depend on impressing the committee. But to get in the playoffs, step one is to win out convincingly.

You’d think since auburn is the common opponent... we win and we’re ahead. This committee is stupid so who knows

Maybe not as much stupid as axes to grind. I believe the entire nation (except the SEC and especially Bama), including the committee are tired of the SEC's and Bama's dominance.

They have to be happy that someone else has won. Even if it is another southern team, at least it's non-SEC.

We need a couple things.

We need LSU to dominate until the playoff, and we need to be impressive in our last 2 games.

If we can do that, we at least make it a coin toss. Best we can expect at this point.

The PAC 12 champion is being positioned to leapfrog idle Alabama on championship weekend. It would be a huge upset if either of them lost before that weekend so the PAC 12 winner and Big XII will be in a good position to claim that 4th and final spot in the playoffs. Chaos must ensue the final 2 weeks for us to have a chance.

I think either of those teams could lose. Even barely eking out a win against their remaining opponents looks bad for them.

Also picking Texas to beat Baylor this weekend and then Baylor to turn around and beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game.

Beat auburn by 10 like I said the other day. Force them to play their common opponent hand, where we hypothetically beat Auburn by more than UGA, LSU, and Oregon combined.

I agree with every word you said buddy and I remember I was watching the tennis US Open when the news flashed across the screen that we lost Dylan Moses for the entire season to injury. I knocked over my cooling fan in desperation and I immediately knew we were not going to win any championships this season.

I don't think LSU was flat playing against Ole Miss. Rather, the LSU defense is very vulnerable and the Ole Miss offense is legit and Rich Rod has done a great job with that unit. If that QB can become a serviceable passer that kid could become a great college QB.

It isn’t the job of the committee to be tired of anyone. The job is to pick what they think are the best 4 teams and nothing in their history thus far has suggested they’ve done anything but that job.

The people on it have spent their professional careers making decisions that might be unpopular and cost them their careers (or in some cases like Rice and now Odierno literally mean life or death for scores of people). What the public thinks about something like a football ranking really isn’t a big deal to them.

The committee is hoping that the barn beats Bama, LSU beats UGA, and Oregon wins the PAC12. Easy selection.

LSU
OSU
Clemson
Ducks

It’s never easy :) Bama is going to unite and bring the best they have to the Barn. We will see where that dice throw lands us.

I don't disagree that the committee (like all of us) prefer that our decisions are easy rather than hard. Here's hoping Bama makes them work for it this year

I can see George Pickens busting out and having a big post season, kind of like Ross did for Clemson last year. Maybe not 370 receiving yards in 3 games, but I could see him really coming on.

Not sure if Pickens is that good, but its just a thought.

Remember they moved 4 loss USC into their top 25. So you are also going to potentially hear this argument if Oregon and Alabama win out:

Alabama beat Auburn who is a common opponent that Oregon lost too however:

1. Oregon's loss to Auburn was in the last minute and it was the first game of the season and they improved so much since then and haven't lost

2. Oregon won one more game than Alabama and is 12-1 compared to just 11-1

3. Oregon has a conference championship

4. Perhaps most importantly Oregon has two top 25 wins (USC and Utah) and Alabama has just one (Auburn)

With that said we should really pull for Texas A&M to beat Georgia this week. That probably shoots Texas A&M into the top 20 and perhaps even if they suffer a fourth loss against LSU the next week they stay ranked. If the committee has USC ranked with 4 losses then I don't see how A&M wouldn't still be ranked with 4 losses as well. Would be nice to take the "only 1 win against ranked teams" argument off the table. Go Aggies.

I agree with this. These last few weeks are when you really see who can handle the pressure. Funny things happen when these teams who are not used to being here all of a sudden find themselves under the pressure of knowing that you can NOT afford to lose a game.

The whole college football world is Bama fatigued hence why both the ducks and Utah were,
both positioned higher than they should be.
Neither has beaten anyone close to what AU or Bama has lost too.
Right now an Oregon lost to a possibly 3 lost AU is more committee impressive than a Bama lost
to and undefeated number one ranked LSU by 5 points.
By ranking them both at 6,7 the winner jumps Bama even if UGA loses to A&M or LSU.
But a double loss this wnkd by both UGA and OSU would put us were?. Back in the top 4 but at 3or 4 ?
Or does a PSU win let them jump pass us at 4 all the way from 8th to 3 ?
We all realize that they will use the conference title's as the main reason to jump us at 4.
But they can't or wont have a good enough reason to drop us from 3 outside the top 4 if both UGA and OSU lose this weeknd.

We need the OSU lost right now more than the UGA.
But we will take either right now.
But both would be perfect in getting us to 3 followed by an impressive win at AU to hold us at 3.

This only leaves room for the better of the conference winners of OU,PSU,Ducks.
We dominate AU and that hurts the Ducks,
and yes people will say ducks are playing better since the AU lost. But we beat AU without Tua does means we are playing better since our LSU lost?
PSU holds on to the 4th spot if they dont lose to minn again in title game.
The OU lost at KSU hurts still enough not to knock us down from 3 all the way out.
Because we have the better lost and better win against AU.

I know all this is a long shot!
But there is a lot of football left to be played.

A PSU win over OSU could put us behind both.
