I wish the MDB was as awesome as the Stanford band.

Never! Get the band better. Piped in music should be outlawed.

the band sounds like a brass noise from the wrong stands.

either mic the band or play louder. If those don't happen in more than glad to pipe it in.

Yeah, it might be a good thing if they were banned from half the campuses in the SEC.

When it comes to getting the crowd involved in the game, which to me is the primary point of a band, the MDB lacks majorly. I'd put it way behind LSU, UGA, AU, and TAMU's. Tennessee's is probably better in the stands, but I agree with prior posters that when you do the same stupid circle drill with a musical journey through the state of Tennessee, you lose points tremendously.

And basketcase at the start of the 4th quarter.

I gotta say I thought the Vol's band did an outstanding job on our field compared to the MDB that couldn't even form a freakin straight line the entire halftime show.

And then last week, the fans are all jacked up at the half and the band chooses to play a freakin medley of "Love Songs"????
It's the biggest home game of the damn season and someone chooses to play love songs for the half-time show?

That's the MDB for ya, making lines as straight as Freddy Mercury.

Did you not see the thread started from last week? Everyone enjoyed the halftime show!

Yea this week's halftime show was awesome IMO. I loved it, very appropriate for Veteran's Day.

This, this, and this.

I have no idea how the half time show goes, because I gave up on that a long time ago. Too many awkward times.

What surprises me is the delusion of the MDB posters in this thread about what they're there for. Very inflated self worth.

You're forgettable. That's it. You're there to get the crowed into/pumped up, and you always fail.

Sometimes I think about how much louder the stadium would be if the band tickets just went to the rest of the students.

Yup. that's their calling card. When everyone is jacked up and jumping out of their seats, the MDB will come in with some sappy love song, and be a huge buzzkill.

I really just wish we'd get rid of them, and step it up with something else. Not only are they failing at their job to get the fans pumped up, but they actually can take the fans out of the game.

And yet again someone is bitching about the MDB but doesn't say what they think will make them better.

Would it have been too difficult for them to have prepared a tribute to Jazz or something, since LSU was visiting?

I appreciate the effort they put forth in honor of Veteran's Day - that was great. But DAMN the last thing I wanted to see/hear were freakin Love Song's in the middle of a killer game like Bama/LSU.

They should've manned up and played something with some balls to it for the racious crowd and the closest they got was "Love Shack" - WTF?

they weren't appropriate for a football game.

neither are show tunes

Is the answer not obvious? Make yourselves relevant by playing music that's appropriate for the moment/atmosphere. Play music that brings out emotion for the fans.******Not melancholy or sappy emtoions.

I think you forget why you're there. NO ONE gives a shite about about Dr. Ozello and his vision of bringing masterful delight through quirky expressions of musical acoustics. Either get the fans pumped up/into the game, or GTFO.

It's not about you, it's about the fans and football team. Remember that.

^^This +100000000

When the stadium has to pump in recorded music to fire up over 100,000 fans for a freakin LSU matchup then the home band aint gettin it done. Fans were standing/dancing/jumping up and down to Dixie Land Delight, etc.

The MDB is non-existant as far as energizing the crowd.

I'm a fan of the band, as I really can't imagine a college football game without a band. To me it's just part of the experience, and no matter what you say, you'd miss them if they were gone.

With that said, I'll give a big +1 to everyone who has said that volume is an issue. Anyone blaming the band for this has obviously never played a wind instrument, as you can't just "play louder" in a place like Bryant Denny and expect it to make a difference. But, something needs to be done. the biggest example of this is during pregame. The band plays tusk, and the team walks out with Thunderstruck blaring. Awesome moment. Then, at the peak of the excitement, the team rushes from the tunnel to the fight song...

...being played at 20% of the volume as Thunderstruck. I was in the lower bowl of the Arkansas game this year and it really stood out to me. The excitement should have gone over the top, but it just dropped. Someone has to figure out a way to get the band and the PA to somewhat comparable levels. I don't know enough to know if mic'ing the band is possible, but I'd start there.

Again, you say "Play stuff to get the crowd into it" but do not say what exactly that is.

It reminds me of pregame. LSU/Auburn fans love to say "The MDB's pregame sucks." Guess what? All three do almost the EXACT same pregame....Fight song intro to all four sides of the stadium, fight song in a block down the field, assorted cheers, National Anthem, then team tunnel entrance. The difference is Auburn/LSU fans participate at a higher level.

If I hear "the Red and Black", Phantom of the Opera, or Can of Tuna (O, Fortuna) I think I'll get sick.

Its so old, so uninteresting, and just plain boring.

Every single bit doesn't have to be a crowd pleaser, but come on.

It has to change.

Oh please spare me the "Dr. Ozello(not a real Dr mind you) is an acoustic genius who is world renown for his vision blah blah blah."

Bottomline is at best you're bland/boring, at worst you're innappropriate and actually detrimental to the atmosphere.

You serve ONE purpose, and that is get the team/fans pumped up. I can promise you that no one cares about the artistic direction you guys take. Again, it is NOT about you.

***I'm strictly talking about the live game, not the halftime show. I cant comment on the halftime show considering I gave up on it my sophomore year.
