I do. Les Miles did it at LSU after Saban left. And our candidates are at the Miles level or better. And we're Bama.

True, but I keep going back to Oats.

Most if any of us had no idea who he was prior to him arriving in Tuscaloosa, and he's obviously had tremendous success.

Byrne heavily researched and solicited input, and did what he thought was best despite popular sentiment.

I expect (and hope) he's already done the same here.

Come on man, Lanning ain't happening.

It'll be okay...maybe

I’m really neutral about Lanning. But the narrative is that he turned us down. I don’t buy it.

Hiring a winning coach is the first step. The program is in a place ripe for recruiting regardless of southern ties. NIL, the goat sticking around in some capacity, facilities, fan base, deep NFL ties with players that want what’s best for the program. The biggest DeBoer question, outside of recruiting, is if he wants the job. I have no doubt recruiting will be consistent and our coaches who have relationships with high school recruits will maintain those relationships.

You’re crazy Dabo is never turning down Bama (he’s not on the list so it won’t matter) and Norvel would walk to Tuscaloosa if he was offered…Sark
And Kirby are different stories but I think y’all are forgetting what Bama is and was.

Comparing college basketball and college football was your first mistake.

Comparing Alabama football and Alabama basketball was another.

Completely different animals.

This is definitely not 2006/7 Alabama

Most candidates might be intimidated by the job. Alabama isn’t for the faint of heart.

I don’t think you can be a successful coach if you’re a big enough pussy to turn down a job because of expectations.

You’re kidding yourself if you think anyone on this board knows who is on Byrne’s list.

I think we can win one but not my expectation.

Either way, that’s disappointing. That was who this gentleman wanted, but I will just sit back and see how this turns out. I think we will probably have someone, my gut instinct tells me, that we didn’t expect. And I don’t mean that as a negative.

This is just ignorant thinking. There are plenty of great coaches out there that didnt necessarily take the path that put them Alabama/Georgia circles. Dan Lanning started as a GA at Bama. Are we really to believe that of all the football GAs back then, Bama vetted all of them and determined he was the best?

There are plenty of great coaches out there. Leipold could win a NC at Bama, Kleinman could win a NC at Bama, Fritz could win a NC at Bama, hell Mark Stoops could win a NC at Bama

I understand what you’re saying from a process standpoint but I’d argue Bama basketball does not equate in any way shape or form to Bama football post Saban.

Resources
History
Roster
Brand recognition
Etc

If Byrne didn’t already have a pre-vetted list lined up with feelers out when it was obvious Saban was done with a NC win he screwed up badly.

His list probably includes assistant coaches.

No kidding. It's been like 20 hours and some of the names random people have dreamed up as candidates are starting to be dismissed by random people. It's a disaster.

The portal is closed. It only opens again for players' whose head coach leaves. Unless that occurs, it will be May before players can go into the portal.
