ZERO signing bonus for Hodgdon. Hope he comes to Bama

I don't think you understand how rounds 11-20 go in the MLB Draft. Teams can give up to a $150K signing bonus to players from these rounds without dipping into the signing bonus pool that they have allocated for picks 1-10. It's actually more common to see really low sigining bonus amounts for the later rounds of the first 10 so that teams have extra money to convince a Round 11-20 guy to sign that is leaning towards college.

With overall pick No. 401, the Braves selected Colby Jones out of Northwest Florida State College.

This one is probably the toughest one since Jones was most likely going to be our 2nd baseman next year if he made it to campus. Going to be hard to turn that down.

When I say develop, I really mean that
We need to get to the point where these guys are willing to stay until they are NBA ready. Davison left a year too early, Bediako left a year too early. Griffen and Nelson probably need another year and Stevenson probably needs two. These are what I mean for “develop”.

Perry, Cunningham, and even Sherrell are all probably two+ year guys and we need them to trust us to develop them in that time instead of jumping in the draft too soon or hitting the portal. Reid may be ready after just one year, but even he I could see needing another year to develop his shot more and be a lottery player.

We’re no longer at the place where we’re promising starting spots to top 50 freshmen, outside of the bonafide starter types. I doubt Perry would start either way, but definitely not if Sears comes back. Wrightsell or Griffen would play the 2 in that scenario. I think we’d grab a portal 1 to at least compete with Perry even if Sears leaves.

To me, this recruiting class could lay the groundwork for a future of Bama basketball where we get star players to stay and develop until they are ready for the NBA. We have 3 (possibly 4 if Perry commits) top 50 guys that could all realistically be backups next year if everyone comes back. That’s Duke and Kentucky level right there and it’s where we need to get to if we want the program to be a perennial Final 4 contender.

VJ Edgecombe visiting November 4th
Is Hess injured? I understand GMac back in the line-up, but thought he would definitely replace someone else unless Hess is injured.
That’d be an awesome sight to see. Curious if they’ll bring him back in a relief role with the overall talent of the three starters we already have for the weekend. Tough to say who you’d pull to make room.

Hess is really showing he’s the guy now, Holman has possibly the best stuff on the team and is only building confidence, and Hitt is a little dash of control away from being a top 2-3 round pick. But also, how do you keep last year’s Friday night starter on the bench if he’s healthy? Good problem to have.

Not sure why he’s still out there in a 9 run game, though. Do we really have no trust in anyone else or just don’t want to give them any momentum going into tomorrow? He’s already at 42 pitches and I would have thought we could have saved him for more meaningful innings this weekend.
I don’t disagree with you. I think Bo was just trying to let him ride it out and ensure a win for us, but probably could have pulled him after two innings at like 15 pitches and let him pitch another time this weekend.

We do still have Woods (his 4 ERs against Samford completely skew his ERA), Probst, and Braylon Myers (his 3 ERs vs Columbia skew his ERA similarly to Woods) as all pretty lock-down relievers. Add in Quick and that’s 4 guys that can eat up a couple innings each and win us a ballgame.

We haven’t been able to finish when the game has been really close yet, so we’ll see how these next two go in that regard. A series win could do really well for us moving forward, especially after narrowly missing wins the past two weekends.

Would take him in a heartbeat. One of the few players you could that could even be a step up from Clowney. And a mature upperclassman. Pettway do your magic!
Shelton with ANOTHER bomb. That makes 2 more this game and 9 this year.

Has to be the leading candidate for SEC Freshman of the Year and in the discussion for even Player of the Year. UNREAL start to his career
Yeah I think that could be really helpful for the overall depth of the bullpen. He could help give us a solid long reliever in the pen that’s really needed in post-season play.

We obviously have a few different arms we’re comfortable giving an inning or two to, so that’s encouraging. I feel we would have stretched a latter and Probst a bit more if we didn’t. I’m
I’m mistaken. It seems like Leger did pitch against Tennessee Tech, albeit an uninspiring debut.

Still leaves the question of Hoopes out there. I hoped he’d be ready to go early after taking the end of last season off for injury.
Still can’t tell who the closer is on this team. We haven’t reakly been in a position to use one yet, but this game seems like that’ll change that

I thought it was Quick at one time, but that’s obviously not the case today. Are Leger and/or Hoopes injured at the moment? I thought it could be one of those two, probably Hoopes moreso, but neither has pitched to start the year.

We're gonna step into the box in Gainesville in a few weekends and see arms of a caliber we haven't come close to seeing in 6 weeks of preseason play. That's an absolute disadvantage. There's a reason almost every other SEC program is playing at least 1 series/tournament against NCAA caliber big conference teams. It's to prepare their guys for conference play.
I agree. We don’t need an out-of-conference schedule the level the basketball team plays, but at least one series against a ball club close to SEC level would have been nice, such as the Barn playing USC.

I know these select early season tournaments are more invite based, so if we can’t get into one of those that’s fine, but I agree that our schedule lacks any oomph until we get to SEC ball and then it’s show up or shut up at that point.
Colby Shelton…WE ARE NOT WORTHY
Shelton has a chance to be the best freshman in the SEC this year. He’s the real deal

If Tennessee hadn’t crapped the bed the past couple weeks I’d say we would have a good chance to jump Houston with a win this week, but I think their recent losses make that not as big of a win as it would have been at the beginning of the month.

I think the media has a hard on for Houston regardless of them losing to Bama at home. I think they’ll be #1.
Hard not to after beating an 5-18 Tulsa this past Wednesday and then getting a 9-16 SMU later this week.
