In a neutral site game? There is none. We dominate those games. In a home and home? Tons. You get us on your campus, a road game at Alabama would almost be viewed as a total mulligan for 95% of programs both in terms of job security and a blemish on your team's resume.

To each his own but I disagree. Nick Saban has a 87% win percentage no matter where we play. It'll be considered a mulligan for ~90% of teams.

Neutral games for Bama and other blue bloods provide more substance for the football team more than it does for a home/home.

Home/homes bring in more money for the local economy and it does take away from the fans though.

Arkansas State is the only respectable program on that list. The Citadel too, but not for football talent.

That doesn’t mean he lied, they may have very well been “close”

He didn't have to say 5-8 were close. Could have said 5-7 were close and left OSU out of it then. If the 31 point loss had sunk OSU could have just said it then. Or perhaps they wanted to see if OSU beat Wisconsin by 30, which would justify it to them?

It's basically that they said 5-8 were very close, and 8 had 3 things go to their benefit, while 5 had 2 things go badly and 1 thing help them (they needed Wisky to lose)

those neutral site games were great. I remember when we were playing those first games against Clemson and Va Tech, I was pumped. But nobody wants to play us, nobody wants to spend $1,000, and it has lost its luster. Our athletic departments revenue is what, 150mm/year? I dont think playing a home and home would kill the school and it would have a huge economic impact on the city.

I was in school when we played Oklahoma at home (went to away game there too). We were horrible and lost. Yet, I will never forget how great that game was. I doubt Ill remeber Wisconsin at jerry World when Im 60.

I only have one request: That we schedule Washington in 2025 or 2026 so that we can commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the 1926 Rose Bowl. Would be very special considering the significance of that game.

I agree 1,000%.

Look, we're all aware of the arguments for the annual opener in Dallas/Atlanta: money and recruiting. That was true in 2008...it isn't today. And thankfully Saban and Byrne are on record now in favor of making some changes.

According to this source, here were the top 10 teams in terms of revenue in May, 2017:

1. Texas
2. Tennessee
3. Alabama
4. Notre Dame
5. Michigan
6. Oklahoma
7. Auburn
8. Georgia
9. Ohio State
10. LSU

Every one of them except Alabama has been playing home-and-home series vs. other Power 5 opponents in the last few years. So the notion that we have to go play in Atlanta or Dallas to open the season EVERY YEAR in order to make a shitload of money is nonsense.

There are the teams that have been in the CFP in its first four years:

Alabama
Georgia
Clemson
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Oregon
FSU
Washington
Michigan State

All of them played home-and-home OOC games against Power 5 opponents in the years they made the playoffs, except Alabama.

2014: Oregon vs. Michigan State. Ohio State @ Va. Tech. FSU vs. Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, and Florida.
2015: Clemson vs. Notre Dame and @ South Carolina. Michigan State vs. Oregon. Oklahoma @ Tennessee.
2016: Clemson @ Auburn and vs. South Carolina. Ohio State @ Oklahoma. Washington vs. Rutgers
2017: Georgia @ Notre Dame. Clemson vs. Auburn and @ South Carolina. Oklahoma @ Ohio State.,

So the notion that we have to play a neutral site Power 5 instead of a home and home series in order to have a better chance of making the playoffs is also fiction.

And we all should be able to agree that there is zero upside to playing an FCS team...and yes, it may bite us in the butt one of these years if we find ourselves just missing the playoffs.

I expect there will be a lot of pushback against having to travel to Orlando to play Louisville. There will be even more for the Duke game. There is zero recruiting benefit to playing that game in Atlanta, if we are going to be there at the end of the year anyway. And Duke does nothing for our strength of schedule. Throw in the fact that they will charge postseason prices to see us play Duke, and there will be a lot of unhappy people.

I was going to make that point that the money doesn't really matter. However, I thought well shite...everyone would like MORE money.

What I do think will be unique in the future is the Bama fatigue. I think we are starting to see more neutral sites to pull non-Bama teams in. Granted we also have more neutral sites games than in the past.

I hate that it puts us at risk of missing the playoffs if we don't win our conference. Or win the conference and lose 2 games vs 1 loss conference champions. We got raked over the coals for our schedule this year. I don't want to know how close OSU was to getting in over us into the playoffs because our best win was LSU??

Oh I agree. But how much more money do you make? I honestly have no idea. But if we have a home game we sell a trillion dollars in horrible houndstooth licensed merchandise. Plus the city makes a ridiculous amount of money. Obviously they do the games for a reason though. I know recruiting and promoting our brand was why we really wanted to do it at the beginning, but I think that has changed with every game being on TV.

I still don't buy that playing an elite OOC teams helps your playoff chances unless you win. Ask OSU fans how that loss to OU helped them this year. If you lose your OOC game, you have ZERO margin for error the rest of the year. So it cuts both ways.

I can live with UL and Duke occasionally as long as we get FSU, Michigan, Miami, etc more often.

I haven't missed a season opener since 2011. I will go see the Louisville game because I promised my little brother I would take him but I won't go spend money to see Duke. I am thinking about ditching my season tickets and buying for games that interest me from now on. I think I will send an email when I don't renew but they won't give a shite because they will just be picked up by someone else waiting for them. It sucks.

The loss to Iowa is what hurt Ohio State. Honestly, our win over Mercer may have hurt us as much as their loss to Oklahoma hurt them. We'll never know...neither game was ultimately a determining factor.

Alabama and the rest of the schools stopped giving a shite about the ticket buying public a long time ago. That's why we've had championship games on Mondays a week after New Years' for the last several years.

I disagree. Had OSU not played OU and instead played someone like Duke, they would have been a 12-1 conference champ and would have gotten in over an 11-1 Bama that didn't even win their division. I have no doubt about that. Losing 2 games puts you out most years. And adding a tough OOC game increases your odds of losing an extra game. Again, it can cut both ways. I'm for playing a big OOC game, I'm just saying I get why we might schedule a UL or Duke occasionally. I just don't want that to become the norm.

Can we at least take UCF up on their home and home offer?

Why on earth should Alabama EVER play an away game at a non Power 5 school? We're not Mississippi State.

My point is not at all about playing the tough OOC game...it's the neutral site location.

Every other team to play in the four years of the CFP was in a H-H series the years they were in the playoffs. Every. Single. One. Only Alabama has steadfastly refused. Like I said...thankfully Saban and Byrne are talking about making changes.

Now, maybe deep in people's minds the 2-loss thing contributed,

It sure as hell did. The committee has shown consistently that it will go out of it's way to NOT have a two loss team. Look at OSU last year over conference champ PSU and UA over conference champ OSU.

How many times have we had an undefeated regular season in the Saban era? Twice (2009, 2016).

2008 was undefeated regular season. Just easy to forget after getting smoked by Utah to finish 12-2.

I count the SECCG as regular season. For the purposes of the discussion above we are saying record going into Bowl/Playoff.

I would add to expect two more years of idiots like Cowherd and Danny Kanell to every troll on the Rant saying Bama doesn't play anyone during the regular season.
