I do not believe at all that Kevin Steele is better than Pete. I have been positive through all the negativity up to this point, but this is the first time I have really felt like this era of dominance is on its way out.

Middle Tennessee put up 45 points against his defense at Miami last year. What the frick?

I am with you. Its baffling and I dont see how there is any other way to put it. IMO both hires are questionable at best. For a man in his 70s, probably making his last real run, I cant say that I believe either of these hires are going to help Saban win another. I think the sun is legit setting. Can he win one more? Maybe. But I just cant see it now.

I said this earlier but got downvoted to frick and back. Rees and Steele are fricking awful hires. No other way to put it for a team with NC aspirations. Finito Boys and girls

I'm not gonna say this is the end of any of that because that'd be foolish, but we've send how great coaches stories wind down and this one is mirroring the others in a lot of ways.

This is Bobby Bowden at FSU all over again. Saban has 3 or 4 more years of high level coaching left. These were probably the last big hires he would be making. All this tells me is he’s content and gotten soft to the grind. The Steele hire just feels he’s helping an old buddy and didn’t want Golding to leave in the first place. Been a fun ride but I don’t see this ending any other way than FSU did at the end of Bowden’s career.

In Steele’s previous stint here, he didn’t particularly care for recruiting, Memphis was the furtherest he would go out. I imagine his road will take a similar path again or he may be like our previous OCs and just be the secondary recruiter on kids. As some have said previously, he has likely been brought in to help “season” Armstrong along and or hold the spot until Pruitt is cleared. He isn’t the “hottest name going” but he does have a proven track record. People bringing up the 70 that West Virginia hung on his Clemson defense from what 15 years ago!! Look what he did at the Barn! I wouldn’t point to his only season at Miami. He didn’t have a whole lot to work with there.

But I suspect he is a placeholder for Pruitt.

Hopefully we still get Pruitt as an analyst or something.

Steele is as close to a promotion from within as you can get. This isn't looking good. And, I suspect Grantham was the other finalist. Terrible.

Look what he did at the Barn!

Ran simplistic stuff behind an incredible defensive front. We ain't got one of those at the moment.

I believe this to be the case. Saban would hire Pruitt in a heartbeat, but not till he’s cleared.

Saban is near the end and doesn't want to change his system and nobody wants to hitch a ride to it?

Yep.
A 30 year old with little experience and a 64 year old retread looking to get more time in Alabama's retirement system who had an awful defense for Miami last year. He hired two yes men that came for different reasons.

The top level guys want to go somewhere to coach with autonomy. Nobody and I mean nobody went into this wanting Rees and Steele as our coordinators.

My only last glimmer of hope is that Pruitt comes on in some type of role and cleared later on in the spring/summer. Then move Steele to a different role and Pruitt as DC.

IDGAF what the Ncaa says really. The Barn hired Freeze and Pearl and we cant hire Pruitt? WTF is going on.

I'm fine with Rees. I think he's going to be really good, actually.

This is the opposite of that.

Kinda depressing. You mean at Alabama we really can’t get a top-notch, good up-and-coming coordinator? It just doesn’t make any sense unless there is something going on behind the scenes that we don’t know.

Why get rid of Pete (and he did get rid of Pete) to get Steele?

Wow, frick. We’re not going to immediately implode or anything , but these are coordinators that are going to underperform our talent and that’s… not exciting or fun to think about.

The Rees hire I was fine with, young guy that when you dig into the details of his offenses looks to be the type of play caller we need if we’re going back to a more run oriented attack.

The DC hire was the most critical of the two all along, we needed someone who has proven they are elite at their job. Kevin Steele is not that. He might end up being more competent than Golding, but this feels like we settled for average.

If Nick Saban place the coaches where they need to be that would be a big help.

Kevin Steele probably should coach the Defensive Line. (DON'T KNOW IF HE HAS BEFORE)

We need physicality at the point of attack.

He's not a bad hire at all folks on here just want a shiny new car all the time...shoot just give me that rust bucket with 4 spares on it if it'll get me from point A to B but know this that Rust Bucket got a 383 stroker in it to so LET'S GET IT.

No it's not dip shite. I knew a lot of people in that building. It's not even comparable and you should feel like a dummy for even thinking it.
