Is Nick Saban's lack of Tech Savvy hurting our recruiting during the pandemic?

Nick admittedly has never sent a tweet or an email, doesn't have a twitter or instagram, really doesn't seem like he is suited for recruiting kids in these circumstances. Meanwhile schools like Ohio State and Tennessee are killing it.

No doubt that Nick Saban is one of the best one on one recruiters, if not the best, but times are different right now, and he isn't very up on communicating in the ways most of these recruits do right now during the pandemic, through text, twitter, ect.

He should hire me. But seriously, sounds like Alabama Football needs a new social media strategist.

I preface this by saying I love Nick Saban and think he will be our coach for a long time coming and I'll never call for him to retire no matter what happens. I still think he has a couple of more NCs left in him.

I just wish that instead of proudly talking about how he has never sent a text he would learn how to do it. That's the way most recruits these days communicate and you know head coaches right now are texting them 24/7 with there being nothing else to do anyway.

With Nick always being on the cutting edge of college football in every other aspect I just don't understand why, especially during this pandemic, that he won't learn how to text, email, get a twitter ect.

We need a better social media presence or sure. And yes, it’s 2020, Saban needs to adapt and adjust. Get twitter, start texting, etc etc. I love Saban but it’s not 1994 anymore. He sure as heck should have the extra time to learn a few new tricks and ways to communicate with a generation that literally lives on their phones now.

LOL. Saban was the first coach to use Skype to talk to a recruit. The staff is monitoring our players activity right now via Apple Watches. They have GPS tech inside of the pads that help coaches make the players more efficient. UA just hired the most forward thinking S&C duo in the country.

If you think Saban is going to lose out on the innovation front because he made some corny remark about email, then you don’t know him.

As many people as Saban employs in the football program I think he has recruiting covered. I've heard that Saban believes there will be a record amount of flips this recruiting class. Read the tea leaves. Saban is going to flip a lot of these kids who have committed.

That's what I am saying, he is on the cutting edge in every other aspect but proudly says he has never sent a text, email, tweet. I don't understand it. Since it's the main way coaches are communicating with players during the pandemic it would be nice of he would learn to text, and it just seems stubborn for him not to.

Exactly. When they came up with the rule that HCs couldn't go out and recruit in the Spring (a rule specifically made so Saban couldn't recruit in the Spring and other HCs were too lazy to go out) he Skyped players.

He also invented "bumping" into players.

Many rules in place are specifically in place because Saban is so good.

He is a genius when it comes to being inventive and is innovative when it comes to CFB. If he weren't a coach he'd be a billionaire CEO like Elon Musk. Because guys like that think on a different level than everyone else. Other people are just playing catch up.

Don't fall for the whole "I don't do social media" act. It's just a part of the whole image of being an "old-school" coach. Even Bear Bryant marketed the whole houndstooth thing. It's just an image thing. There's a whole team working on social media a player-contact.
Every detail is covered.

No one thought Saban would get away from the run-heavy pro-style offense...then he hired Kiffin...then he had a player like Blake Sims, Hurts and Tua.

There's nothing "old-school" about Saban. He's on the leading edge of everything.

Thank you for pouring some common sense on the dumbass Op's thread.

Saban ain't got time for Facebook or Twitter. He will hire the best available to do that shite.

Being texted constantly from the head coach carries a lot more weight than it being from an assistant coach or someone Saban gets to do it for him.

I guarantee you Ryan Day and Pruitt are constantly personally texting recruits right now.

If Saban is as good at recruiting during the pandemic as he is during regular circumstances then why is our recruiting class ranked 47th? Why do we not have one commit ranked in the top 60? That's not normal for us.

How often are recruits sitting down to talk to coaches on zoom compared to how often they are texting? Cause if they are awake they are texting.
