Missouri freshman offensive lineman Johnnie "DJ" Jones underwent a successful heart transplant Wednesday night and is now recovering, head coach Eli Drinkwitz announced Thursday.
The news comes just two days after Drinkwitz revealed that Jones was hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and urgently needed a new heart.
"Last night, DJ received his heart transplant, and his surgery went well. He is now recovering," Drinkwitz said.
Jones, a four-star recruit from Venice, Florida, had his heart condition discovered during routine medical testing over the summer.
Drinkwitz thanked the medical staff and the donor's family while asking fans to continue praying for Jones as he begins his recovery.
