If you're a 5 star HS recruit, don't really care about the NFL where do you go?

I know, that's a rare kid but if you don't care about making it to the NFL and can go anywhere you want, where do you go if it's not Bama?

I felt like I got a good education at UA and don't regret attending all those years ago. My grades in HS were decent but not great, so I was never going to Stanford or Vandy or Notre Dame, etc.

Bama was my first choice in the schools I was accepted by (Tennessee, NC State, Clemson) and I never regretted it. However, if I'd had the grades to go ANYWHERE, it'd be difficult to turn down Stanford. Great school and in a beautiful (but very expensive) part of the country.

Thoughts?

If you’re talking straight academics to parlay into a career and assuming the kid was capable of actually doing the coursework:

Stanford
Cal
Northwestern
Vandy
Michigan
Notre Dame
Duke
UVA
UNC
Wake forest
gatech

But a kid can go anywhere from any school if he’s smart and motivated. Look at Dr. Myron Rolle. Played at FSU, went to the NFL, and is now a Neurosurgeon

Assuming this hypothetical person who is good enough at football to be a major D1 recruit but only wants to continue playing it in order to get a college education is real, he's probably got a really good idea of what he wants to do for a living instead, so wherever has the best academic program related his interests.

The reality is most of them will go where the NIL paycheck is the greatest, within limits. If the NIL difference is negligible, then distance from home, academics, favorite childhood team, etc. come into play. However, almost all college football players hope to play in the NFL, so it's a moot point.

Duke

Duke has had Mensah and Daniel Jones recently.

As long as you’re getting decent coaching and quality blocking you could do worse.

Miami. Just hang out on the beach all day and look at those thong tha thong thong thongs. Plus Miami is actually a pretty good school if you care enough to attend the classes

Probably Miami. They'll pay bank plus the South Beach hoes are a nice perk.

If I'm a 5 star kid coming out of HS with no aspirations of going to the NFL, I am getting as sweet of a deal on the front end as I possibly can.

like someone said, whichever school is tops in my chosen field of study. after that, for me would be the school closest to the beach with the most yearly sunshine. jamaica u, trinidad tech, costa rica college of beautiful surf babes you get my drift.

The question reminds me of Clint Waggoner, who played DL in the late ‘90s. IIRC, he ended his career early for medical school. He wasn’t NFL material. However, it’s still rare for a scholarship player to leave eligibility on the table for an academic or professional (non-football) reason.

He’s someone who was actually in school for a purpose.
