I posted a similar thread the day after Selection Sunday a little over a month ago. Certainly a different feeling today. A few coworkers going as far as to check on me

Today feels worse than any day after a NC/playoff loss.

I got texts from folks who only text me when Bama loses.

Have friends and acquaintances that NEVER want to talk football with me texting me things like "best wishes" and "thoughts and prayers" and "how you holding up" while barely able to contain their giddiness. Obviously we knew how much psychological damage Saban had done to the fan psyches of other programs, but they are really letting it out now.

Excited for the future. We'll be alright. Been through this rodeo before and we learned a hard lesson "chasing" Bryant all those years.
Get a young coach in here, have a little patience and maybe he'll have a 15-20 year ride.

Normally a pessimist but I'm feeling pretty thankful for everything we've seen the last 16 years and hopeful that Byrne finds us someone good to navigate us through the new landscape of college football.
Honestly it's kind of funny watching opponents celebrate like we're about to become Vanderbilt.

As someone who has passionately followed college football for decades, I get it.
But the reactions thus far have really demonstrated how much Nick Saban has broken a lot of fanbases.

I have witnessed, first as a student and secondly as a alum, the two greatest cfb coaches and dynasty’s. Although saddened by Sabans decision, I am greatfull of his accomplishments and the way he has represented the university I love.

THis is the first day in nearly 20 years where I feel a little lost when it comes to our football program.
Just in the middle of the usual cycle of grief.

This. I'm not sad. I'm happy Saban went out on top, relatively speaking. I think it was time.
Just thankful to witness this incredible run.
I'm more fearful that we hire the wrong guy and implode.
Which is why I like Kiffin so much. WE KNOW he would win here. Maybe win big. He has a very high floor (probably easily win 10 games a season) and be in the hunt for the playoffs every year.
The other candidates are bigger risks, but maybe they have bigger upsides. Maybe Kiffen keeps us in the promised land. Or maybe he's just a soft landing until the next guy.

My phone absolutely exploded when he retired.
Now for the record I never talk trash, so it’s not like this is in response to anything but their own jealously and hate of Bama.
The subtle business associate trolls get stats like “just thankful for all he accomplished. He has more SECCG wins than all these teams do in their history (I list them out especially if their team is on the list.
For the ones who were straight up assholes about it (LSU and UT fans mostly) I just started slowly sending pictures, one after the other of all the trophies he won while he was here (SECCG and NC).
By the time you hit trophy #10 or so they generally shut up.

Trying not to think about it too much, everyone knew this day would come sooner than later. Cautiously optimistic about the future, but accepting the fact that we'll likely never have it as good as we've had it the last 15 years as football fans. The show must go on. Roll Tide.

Feeling great. Have no reason to be concerned about Saban leaving. I hope the rumors of health issues are not true.

I’m fine. We knew this day was coming. Thought it would be after next year but I enjoy coaching searches and am excited to see the new era.

A little sad. Wish work was busier so I had something to help the day move faster. But we knew it was coming sooner rather than later. I mean, he's 72.
I'm just glad he went out without doing a Bowden or Paterno, and drug us back to down to mediocrity before retiring.

I'm grateful to have been a student at UA in the Saban Era. I'll miss Saban not only for the obvious fact that his teams were always in the hunt, but also because you knew he was invested in the players being good representatives for the university. You knew there wouldn't be any major scandals and that the team's off-field conduct would be far less embarrassing than the average college football team.
At the same time, I'm not worried in the long run. Alabama could miss on this hire and still be in much better shape than in 2006. Making the playoffs will be much easier in this new era, then you just need a little run - it's pretty normal in the NFL to see teams barely above .500 go on to win a super bowl. Alabama football is still here and they will still be here as long as this sport exists.
