Throw out the stats the nostalgia and all that. Which pair of killers you guys like more based on the way they play?

I personally like the latter more. Copeland and Curry were both big dudes but man, Anderson and Turner are just such long limbed, high motor players. Even if they get pushed away from the QB, their reach will still get in the QBs head enough if they don’t eventually get him to force him into a possible bad play. I think Turner had a play earlier last year where he swung the QB down with one hand by the momentum of a block.

To answer your question, for Saban’s defense I would take Anderson and Turner.

If I'm not mistaken, Curry and Copeland were DEs and Anderson and Turner are OLBs. Could you imagine if all 4 of them playing together? That would be an absolute nightmare for QBs.

Both line up in ground stances though if I remember correctly on occasion? OLB in Saban’s system are essentially the hybrid DEs. The DL is just meant for big, beefy run cloggers.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Saban come up with the 3-4 defense back in the 90s to combat offenses like the K-gun and such?

I speak as someone who has watched all of them that are being discussed. First of all, the best pass rusher we have ever had was Derrick Thomas. It’s not even close.

As far as the players being compared, it is without question Copeland and Curry. Anderson and Turner are an incredible combination, one that is absolutely amazing. They are the best that we have in college football right now.

Copeland and Curry were a generational talent combination. When the ball was snapped, if you didn’t get it out quickly, they would get to you. It was simply a matter of time. That overall defense was possibly the best to ever play; if a team scored a point, you were surprised as a fan, and as a player, they were angry about it.

The 3-4 defense has been around a long time . It just became more popular and versatile bc of spread offenses though

Honestly, Anderson is Derrick Thomas 2.0. And Turner isn't far behind.

Anderson is the best pass rushing OLB prospect maybe ever. He does everything at an elite level, has every single physical trait you want maxed out, has the intelligence, leadership, work ethic, and intangibles to boot. Kid walked onto the most talented roster in CFB, and was arguably its best defender within his first week as a true freshman.

Copeland stopped every running play up the middle. Curry applied the outside pressure. They were just awesome together.

If Anderson plays good the defense plays good. The two games we lost last year he had zero sacks. I'm sure he was double teamed most of the time.

Curry/Copeland were the true “book ends”. I happened to be a walk on QB when those 2 first arrived on campus. They were relentless on getting to the backfield. Great first steps at 280+ pounds, long arms, and constantly bulldozing the OTs into your face. They just smothered run plays too. Anderson/Turner similar styles just much lighter. Without a doubt, Derrick Thomas “DT” was the greatest pass rusher of all time!!

Cornelius Bennett and Derrick Thomas followed by Thomas and Keith McCants provided quite a few highlights and gave quarterbacks nightmares for a decade.

He didn't have a sack or TFL in the NC game, but I swear I remember him being a beast in that game. Maybe the 4 tackles that he did have were just impressive or something, or maybe my memory is just shite.

I think it's too early to call this race. This will be the final year Turner and Anderson will be on the field together at Alabama.

Gregory was the NG and was highly underrated. He was hurt and didn't play in the SEC Title Game vs UF and it showed.
