Zero confidence in that. Saban wasn’t thinking about that. He couldn’t even decide if me wanted to retire much less think about a replacement. Total bogus, BS. You can’t really believe what these click bate bozos say, can you???? Tell me you are not that stupid

I was in the media for close to 50 years, I can assure you that the quality people don’t make things up and I think Low is one of the quality people.

Do you know what kind of contract Dabo signed with Clemson. He guaranteed he would not coach at Alabama. Maybe your buddy is totally ignorant of the contract like some others.

Dabo's contract doesn't prohibit him from leaving Clemson to coach at Bama, it's just that the buyout he has to pay is increased if he leaves for the Bama job, no?

Dabo had signed a contract that pretty much made it impossible for him to leave Clemson for Alabama. Maybe your buddy did know that, but that’s really his job to know those things. Total click bate bs. He didn’t mention that, did he?

Idk if saban recommended Dabo or not but like was said earlier, byrne went the lazy route when he began to panic.

Dabo’s buyout was only like, 10M even with that clause

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. My buddy?

Regardless, everything I see online about Dabo's contract says this:

quote:

There are three clauses in the contract should Swinney leave Clemson on his own. There is an Alabama clause, a clause for any other university he might go to and an NFL clause.

If Swinney leaves Clemson for Alabama after the 2022 season, he would owe Clemson $9 million. In 2023 and 2024, it drops to $7.5 million, $6 million in 2025, $4.5 million in 2026 and 2027, $3 million in 2028 and 2029 and $1.5 million in 2030.

Terms of Swinney's New Deal, Plus Buyout Clauses

What clause in his contract are you referring to that makes it pretty much impossible for him to leave Clemson for Bama?

I don’t know why everyone is in such an uproar over this, we have a coach who’s probably going to be here a while.

Plus the departing coach, even Saban, has no business picking his successor.

And I really don’t think Dabo or Kiffin is going to end up here if there should be a vacancy, regardless of what the fans want.

It would be his remaining contract plus the Ala 150 pct penalty clause. Saban had dozens of calls from coaches when he abruptly retired. His return call didn’t mean he favored anyone or was searching for a coach.

I don't think that is true. The term sheet for his contract is available here: PDF copy

Here's the buyout language:

I think Deboer will eventually right the ship. I believed and still do believe that he was and is the best coach that was available. I questioned his decision not to pull Milroe a couple of games last season, and I question his D coordinator hire. But I don’t necessarily blame him for how the players have performed at times. The last couple of years Saban was here the focus and attitudes on his teams were declining sharply. I believe that NIL has given these players a sense of accomplishment and achievement before they actually do anything. It kills the sense of urgency and their drive to improve daily.

And they don’t play defense and can’t beat the big boys. Why empty the coffers for that??

Dabo would have been an absolutely great choice if the NIL shite didn't hit.

I don't think Dabo knows how to run a program anymore, a lot of old school coaches probably in the same boat.

Deboer was Greg's first and main target.

I do not share your confidence. Not after FSU. I truly believed he had earned the loyalty and respect of his team and this year would be great. The product he put on the field opening day destroyed any illusions of his competency

The only problem with that is Dabo wasn't and isn't taking the job. It's written into his contract at Clemson about the Alabama job.

Well not the only problem. A much bigger problem would’ve been hiring Dabo.

I was raging too but a week made a difference. I'm willing to back off and see if it sticks. We're not out of anything right now.

Also I think Florida State (and their loudmouth QB) is a lot better than people here give them credit for. Of course that doesn't excuse poor preparation one iota, the staff should have known this wasn't a 2-10 team and had this team ready for a challenge, in the NIL/portal era previous year's records are utterly irrelevant, you can go out and fix problems immediately. It was like they just thought we could show up. (Now I'm getting upset again, but I said I'm going to back off.)

Easiest way to sum up the DeBoer era

First thing he did was tell everyone he wanted everyone in the building to be happy, and spend less hours at work and more time at home with family. Lol. What could go wrong if that's the day 1 message from the boss.

Different "vibe" and music and ice cream at practice.

Ive met a few DeBoers in the business world... my personal experience is they are fodder for the sharks. It's as if he grew up in the new gen z world that has no idea that life isn't fair, and its gonna be hard AF to survive.
