The defenses at Texas were a joke though. Extremely bad
They were 2nd in the Big XII in YPP in 2014 (8th nationally). They weren't as good the last 2 years (5th and 4th).

I'm sure he has many strengths and is no doubt top notch when it comes to a position like analyst. But hiring him as DC to me would be like hiring Butch Jones for OC. Just go ahead and shoot me now.
Yea I would not be jumping for joy at hiring him at DC.

Can we sticky this thread just for his melt (and the other Golding stans) when Strong actually does become DC?

Why would anyone melt if Strong became DC? You act as if there are staunch Golding fan boys on this site, when in reality there are just people that are simply on the fence regarding him.

Read the previous page.
We have a guy making a declaration Strong would never be DC, simply because he defends Golding.
So, yeah dudes are going to melt and yeah we're going to laugh at them.

I just really want Golding to have success. But I would think any Alabama fan should want that.

One poster, who just seems like he isn't that sold on Strong being that great. Not "because he defends Golding."

I too want Golding to have success but even with a defense coming back that will have better personnel at the LB position it looks like Golding has a 50/50 chance for success. I mentioned on this board earlier that if Golding's defense isn't markedly improved I believe he will either be stripped of his play calling duties or outright fired by mid-season. And, now with what looks like Charlie Strong coming on-board I firmly believe that by mid-season we will know if Golding survives or not.

Pretty sure I went into pretty good depth why I didn't think Strong would be the DC, none of which had anything to do with Golding.
Beyond that, do you also consider Saban to be a Golding defender, since he's basically said exactly the same things in regards to the number of freshman playing on defense?
You haven't stopped melting since November, and you need something to blame so all you know to do is blame Golding.

Any time you can have a defensive coach like Strong in the program, whether as DC or just an off the field position, you jump at it.

I just really want Alabama to have success, with or without Golding.

I hope he is DC by the time we play UGA

This is how deluded you Golding fans are.
So the same people defending Golding night and day like he's the Alamo are the same people saying a proven DC over a career isn't that great.
Again, we will laugh at y'all. It will be yuge.

Coach Saban hates, hates, hates, hates, hates, hates, hates, to be wrong.

I think there is some truth in this. After all we all hate being wrong.
However, I also feel he wants continuity for recruiting and is trying to give Golding every chance possible to show him he can be that guy.
We also know Saban is probably looking for solutions in case Golding fails with how he invited Charlie Strong to Tuscaloosa.
The Golding boys don't want to admit it but Charlie Strong is a contigency plan in case Golding can't get it together.

They played a great interview with Dave Aranda this morning on wjox. He talked about how they contained the lsu offense, in particular their QB. Aranda talked about how good their QB was on the read option. Said he can cover about 10 yards in 2 steps. How he can throw from one hash mark to the other sidle line on a rope, and was good at improvising. And he said he has been taught, "if this, then what". And he does that real well. But Aranda said we were able to change things that confused him, and made him hold the ball, and our def line could get to him. Aranda said our d backes also matched up well with their receivers and contained them. But going back to the quarter back doing if this, then what, that sounds again like pre snap reads by the QB. This is the same thing that everyone was saying about TUA at the end of 2018. The defense makes changes just before the snap, and the QB is confused. Then the "if this, then what" read goes out the door. Aranda said that golden locks just needs to take it to the next step to be a great QB. So, IMO this is what college defenses are trying to do to stop the fast paced RPO offenses. You have to change the coverage and the look pre-snap, to confuse the QB. But, lsu also had very good DBs that could stay with the receivers and defensive linemen that could get some pressure on the QB. Aranda said our D line did a good job of containing him and getting enough pressure when he was confused and held the ball too long.

Our defense did better against LSU than most other teams. I think Auburn did better, but Clemson and other big teams didn't - and those teams didn't have the injury problems Alabama did.
And that is while the offense did absolutely NOTHING to help, and instead helped LSU multiple times.
Alabama fanbase is melting over the defense, and yet it was one of the better coaching jobs in recent history.

Golding already showed he was the guy. The rest of what you say about having to prove himself to Saban is just some shite you've made up.

I don't expect most of you to understand or take into account the difficulties involved. Simple minds can't see beyond black and white and that's fine. It didn't take long to see the delusion about last season and that the offense was the reason we lost 2 games, not the defense.
