I was at a point with him where it was make or break in how we move forward. He is great and a future first round likely all pro, but this morning I don’t even care honestly. He isn’t Alabama. Collectively we have to cope with the fact he won’t be the last, and it won’t always make sense; but at the end of the day if he is gone…then bye. In the words of roll tide Willie, I don’t give a piss about nothing but the tide.

I hope our guys who stay take that slogan to heart.
It should be BEEF all through the SEC Media Days. If I see a guy who transferred to another school in any setting...words would be exchanged for real.

quote:That is a stupid conclusion. It likely had nothing to do with DeBoer, Alabama was simply outbid. If anyone is to blame, it is the boosters who support Alabama's version of NIL. But I'm reluctant to blame others who are spending 100s of thousands of their dollars. But DeBoer certainly bears no responsibility.
Saban gave DeBoer the keys to a Cadillac and a sure thing playoff berth next year. All that had to happen was keep the team together.
DeBoer has failed his first task.
You sound like a troll who is looking for any reason to critique DeBoer. You missed the mark here - and it is obvious.

This isn't a failure on Deboer it's a failure on our collective/NIL as a whole
Like it or not that's what college football has become. Adapt or fade into mediocrity with occasional big success.
Downs was different, he came here to be developed by Saban and undoubtetdly would've turned down more money up front from Georgia and Ohio State. That opportunity is gone. If he can go be developed by someone he knows and get paid a fortune in the process, it's not my place to blame him. It pisses me off, but if my current company hired a new boss I didn't know and I had a connection at a similar company working for a guy I was comfortable with for a lot more money I'd go too, and I've been at my company a lot longer than Caleb Downs has been at Alabama.
This portal/NIL era we are currently in obviously isn't sustainable but its the world we're in now. They aren't officially employees, but the majority of these kids view their recruiting and subsequent enrollment just as an adult views an employee/employer relationship.
Aside from losing our best football player and arguably the most talented player in the country, I really worry that him leaving will turn the snowball into an avalanche

I'm all for the kids making as much money as possible, the Universities and NCAA have made billions collectively over the years.
NIL isn't a problem. The portal is a bigger problem, but not a deal breaker. It the fact that both of them combined with absolutely no structure or standards in place are going to crumble the game completely.
Like a lot of others, if it's just another pro game, it really hard to keep interest when the NFL by comparison is now somehow a million times more stable than college.
You have to imagine it's not going to be long before the viewership falls and pain starts coming because of the financial model that college football is now working with. This actually reminds me of NASCAR when they decided to rapidly expand and ended up destroying their core audience and financial model.

On the bright side we can bet Georgia -3 on FanDuel so either things aren't really that bad or we're getting rich

Agreed. I am afraid DeBoer might be in over his head.

College football is fricked ip.

Why is our NIL people not ponying up. Hell there’s plenty of rich boosters in this state? You would think one of these big boosters would pony the frick up to keep him if for nothing else than to send a message. Keeping Caleb was and is a huge deal we can’t keep letting these snakes buy our players. You join Yea Alabama to help with this shite and we still can’t keep the ones here that we need to stay. The optics of this shite is horrible! I am not rich by any means but I’ve done my part by becoming a member of Yea Alabama but I’m starting to wonder what the hell the point is if we can’t retain key pieces!

It ain't a failure on that either.
One day y'all gone realize he wanted to leave regardless.

I want to leave my job all the time. They pay me well enough to suppress that

Well one thing is for fricking sure I’m done contributing, I’m done helping, I’m done getting sponsors. Completely utterly done. I might even say frick my seats and my spots and all that BS. Not worth it. I’ll get tickets if I want to go to a game.

You know, honestly I may just find something better to do with my Saturdays in the fall now. I haven't cared for the portal since it's inception, but now for any players it's just money. And it's every year.
The thing that separated college and NFL was that you wanted to play for the coach and school. Now it's NFL lite with everyone being free agents every week. bullshite and I'm over it

“He wanted to leave regardless.” Maybe. In that case, it was CKD’s responsibility to change his mind. He’s the best player on the roster he inherited. It’s ok to call a spade a spade guys. CKD failed here.

I don’t understand how we as fans can be upset that others with the money don’t “pony up” the money. It’s not our money to give.

Negative. Bye Felicia!
I can and I will do more with less that should be CKD motto.
