Diego Ricardo made a good point in the good bad and ugly thread about the staff refusing to make schematic adjustments after fall camp throughout the season and the result is pretty predictable. The offense gets figured out (usually because it's far too predicated on QB's limitations) after a hot start, the staff makes zero changes to playcalling or depth chart. Now your offense can't put drives together, leaving the defense on the field forever, injuries pile up, and you have an exhausted and demoralized team by week 8/9 at best. This is especially glaring this year with the secondary being a bit of a bust.

Watching Brooks’ breakdown of the running game, this really does seem to be at least partially the case. I’m not taking up for Grubb, I think he’s called some idiotic plays at times, but the reason we couldn’t get the running game going was guys just missing their assignments or getting whipped right at the line. For whatever reason, our OL and TE blocking has digressed a little as the season has gone on.

Who do they think we would hire that would be an upgrade?

They don’t . I like KD as our coach but I think it will take him leaving and Bama sinking to real mediocrity for some to realize what they had . Most have never known anything but Saban . Sad really bc he is a good coach , recruiter and overall a likable guy

You always rather fire a coach than have him poached or retired.

The program will be at a huge disadvantage if DeBoer leaves after this season. Genuinely it would be better for him to stall out and get fired in 2-3 seasons from now.

Why does USC think DeBoer would do better at USC than Riley or Kiffin or Sarkisian or any of the other coaches that they’ve had that have been good or decent other places but stunk at USC?

Riley has 70 million left on his buyout so USC is going to eat that, pay 15 million to us for DeBoer, pay DeBoer his salary, pay NiL. I don’t see it.

When they hired Riley he was the hottest name in the country. Had Oklahoma near the playoffs every year, LSU wanted him, other schools wanted him. I’m not sure what this move realistically accomplishes for them.

Good points but for whatever reason it has been hinted that this could be his last year at USC. Not sure if it is on his end or both may want to part ways . The AD at USC was at Washington before taking over . I hope KD stays here but I wouldn’t blame him if he left and hope he doesn’t read this board

I do too and we do have some goofy arse fans that make it hard to keep good people around BUT Kalen has to be able to do himself some favors too.

1. There can’t be job change rumors every year. To some degree that’s out of his control but to some degree it’s not. Ryan Day is never rumored to be interested in other jobs. You are at a destination job that made 2 different coaches into the greatest of all time.

2. Stop saying it’s “the execution” instead of the playcalling. Every single offensive play is designed to work. No one draws up a toss sweep where you run out of bounds after losing 5 yards. We know the plays are designed to work. But when they aren’t working that means you need to call something that will. You have to pivot.

Hell, saying it’s “the execution” is actually a bigger self own than saying “we need to work on what we’re calling” because if it’s execution then that means that in year 3 you are admitting that you can’t find the players to execute your system or you can’t coach them to do it right.

So it’d be a lot better if you said “we need to look at calling plays that play to the strengths of the players out there” instead of “our backup center gets his arse beat on 60% of plays and we don’t have anyone better but we’re still going to run long developing pass plays and hope Keelon can make chicken salad out of chicken shite”.

I want DeBoer to stay but I also need him to stop regularly having games where we look like complete dogshit and to have some real answers for when we aren’t playing well.

The only person I can think of is a current ESPN personality that doesn’t seem to be interested in coming back to coaching.

And I’ll be honest, I’m not sure he’d be a 100% upgrade unless he brought Jeremy Pruitt and Sark with him.

I hope KD doesn’t leave but if he did, the only semi-realistic HC out there I’d like to see Bama hire is UCLA HC Bob Chesney. If you look at where all he’s been, he’s been a winner at every stop and turned around some bad teams.

The Texans are 2-5. Is there a world where DeMeco comes home and gives college coaching a try now that recruiting doesn’t matter?

This is going to get downvoted to hell and I understand why…but, in a situation where USC does fire Riley and DeBoer decides to go coach in front of 15k fans every week at USC I can think of a lot worse options than bringing in Riley.

It hasn’t gone well at USC, but it doesn’t seem to go well for anyone at USC. The guy was churning out Heisman QBs like clockwork and was always in the mix for championships. I doubt he just suddenly became a bad football coach. It might be a situation where you put a guy like that at an Alabama and it takes him up a level. I mean Oklahoma basically asked Stoops to retire so they could give him the keys to the castle. I can think of worse situations to be left in.

Hell no. Dude went to USC because he didn’t want to coach in the SEC. No way he should be the head coach at Alabama. Offensive coordinator? Fine. Head coach? Absolutely not.

I’m pretty sure he went to USC because they gave him 100m dollars, bought him an insane house, and bought house in Oklahoma way above market value.

Everyone at that time knew super conferences were coming and that USC was going to be in one of them. I’m not sure taking a bunch of SoCal boys to play at Penn St in November is any harder than coaching Oklahoma in the SEC

Riley left OU because he didn't want to be in the SEC.

Yes I’m sure he thought flying 3 time zones east to play an away game in 10 degree weather was tougher than taking Oklahoma to play South Carolina

Probably because He did much better at UW than Sark.
