The Alternative being the one many expected: Lose to Georgia, beat Vandy like a drum.

We're obviously in a worse place in terms of perception, but we're in a much better place in terms of actually getting to where we'd like to be at the end of the year.

Just food for thought

If that had been the case, Georgia would be the undisputed king of the SEC today, and we'd all still be wondering if DeBoer was good enough to coach at the highest level.

We've gotta keep some perspective here and give credit to this staff and team for beating Georgia in the biggest reg. season game of the year.

We're in a position to regroup, and win out. This game will be all but forgotten if we go 11-1

If this is food for thought, I’m going on a hunger strike.

No shame in losing to Ga. Inexcusable to lose to Vandy.

The obverse is true as well. It's exciting to beat Georgia and emotionless to beat Vandy. Regardless, I don't really get the point of this thought exercise but I've been seeing it multiple places.

I guess the point is that so many people are acting like it's the end of the world and throwing everyone under the bus, but I'd rather be 4-1 this way than having lost to Georgia.

I would feel much better about losing to Georgia.

Losing to UGA is understandable. Beating Vandy is understandable. Beating UGA is understandable. Losing to Vandy is inexplicable.

Even worse. Losing to Georgia then getting our asses kicked by Vandy.

Only to your pride.

I would take this scenario any day if our DC could actually adjust and our LBs could start playing with chest

Losing to Vandy shows your program isn't serious. No great team has ever lost to Vandy. Ever. Beating UGA is a good sign, but losing to the worst program in the SEC is indefensible.

I knew coming into this season that Bama would be good enough to beat UGA even if we didn't. I never imagined we'd be bad enough to lose to Vanderbilt.

I really thought this staff was going to be a significant upgrade to the previous few years and I thought the defensive coaching would be better than any since Pruitt. For all the crap I have talked about Saban’s staff hires over the last several years, he never put a staff together that was bad enough to lose to Vanderbilt.

This was a shameful performance. They were not ready.

I hate to say it, but if this group couldn’t get ready to play Vanderbilt after a win against UGA, I have serious doubts they will be ready after a loss to Vandy.

People have a right to be concerned.

I know most disagree with you, but I 100% agree. Much more ideal to beat UGA and lose a letdown, hangover away SEC game. People are getting wayyyyy too caught up on the Vandy title. Who gives a frick if it was Vandy. Very clearly not the same old shitty Vandy team this year.

But yeah, if we lost to Georgia then the narrative would be much shittier, and you really can't convince me otherwise.

If Bama goes 10-2 and the second loss is to Mercer should Bama fans just handwave that away because it's just Mercer and we shouldn't care about the name?

No.

You don't lose to Vandy. No great team has ever lost to Vandy and a lot of teams have lost to Vandy.

Coping mechanism

As long as we're coping, and looking for some way to find some good that may come out of this shitshow, maybe it was better in the long run to lose than win another ugly game. Rip the bandaid off, and expose all the problems for the world to see, especially the team and coaching staff.

That's assuming they are capable of recognizing and making the needed changes. I think they are, but we will see.

Don't you get it? These idiots would rather the staff skip prep for uga and use the off week, the uga week, and the Vandy week to prepare for Vandy, so they aren't embarrassed at work and on their social media.

Every team in the SEC has lost to fricking Vandy since 2004 except Lsu, Tejas, Aggie and OU.

Yes, and every one of those teams that lost to Vandy since 2004 failed to win 10 games or finish the year in the top 12.

So the point stands - no great ream has ever lost to Vandy.

Fine I’ll say it

I’d rather lose to UGA and beat Vandy, than to beat UGA and lose to Vandy

It’s that simple

I will say this. I always thought that DeBoer would have an Urban Meyer 2005 moment that sort of welcomed him to the SEC. I thought that would happen either at Tennessee or LSU.

While that still could happen, I do think that all this talk of a "seamless transition" is over, and CKD now knows the full weight of being an Alabama coach.

Whether or not he can carry that weight is TBD.
