Until the spring game happens, all of this portal QB chatter is click bait. Plain and simple. It’ll be pretty obvious if our guys are ready or not come Saturday

As far as TVD specifically, sounds like a kid fishing for more NiL money, and knows that dropping Bama’s name is probably a good move to secure the bag. The fact that this is generating drama in the Bama fan ranks is exactly what media and sub services that hide “their inside info” behind a pay wall want

I have no issue either. USC went out and got Caleb Williams last year. He won the Heisman and they almost made it to the playoff. Might do it this year. Alabama should never settle for anything less than that.

I agree. And, having and maintaining a great OC/QB development staff is going to be an imperative going forward.

If our current crop of QB's aren't ready, that's mostly on BoB at this point. That said, if they truly aren't ready, Saban would be nuts to not go grab a veteran QB he feels can help us win a title. With free agency wide open in CFB now, there is NO excuse for not having a good-great QB starting every year at elite programs.

*edit--also remember that grad-transfers are not restricted to the portal windows. I'm guessing there are more than a few veteran QB's who will be getting their degrees in May and can transfer whenever they please.

Totally agree. It's fine (and really fun) to have your preference and rooting side of a QB battle but ultimately if the coaching staff feels the need to go outside the program to find the answer, then you just hope whomever wins the job can lead the team to a successful season.

At least in today's time, you're not necessarily stuck if a prospect or two isn't progressing like planned.

That’s what I’m saying I just saw him last weekend and thought he had improved. Passes were better.

Exactly. We can also remember back to Auburn winning a title by getting Cam to transfer. LSU with Joe Burrow, the huge turnaround UT made this year with Hooker from VT, Jalen Hurts leading OU to the playoffs, the list goes on. Transfer QB's making big impacts will be the norm moving forward even for big programs. We shouldn't be surprised if Saban does the same thing this year, or some future season.

I'm not necessarily against taking a transfer QB. I'm more concerned if it happens to be a mediocre one like Van Dyke.

Yeah that is another reason why I'm not putting much stock in it. Unless Rees just really really like Van Dyke and wants him on the team.

I personally believes that Van Dyke wants more NIL money and this is a ploy to get more from Miami. I would be shocked if it actually materializes into something. 247 sports and the like have built this "rumor" up to sell more subscriptions, as stated above.

If that’s the case then the university and Saban would have to be ok doing this, right?

I mean if they’re not they could just come out with a statement saying we’re not interested in taking TVD and we don’t know where this got started.

I not saying you’re wrong, but this is how this thing can be resolved in one statement from Saban.

Why would the university and Saban be interested in helping him get more money from Miami?

You completely misinterpreted what I said. Van Dyke is floating the transfer rumor to get more NIL money from Miami. It's like when coaches interview for other jobs when they are currently employed. They are using it as leverage to get more money from their current employer. The Miami NIL reps are meeting with him today. There is very little chance that he will actually leave to come to Alabama. At least IMO.

Saban isn't going to come out every time a recruit or transfer mentions our name and say "he's lying, we aren't interested in him at all." Would take way too much time and effort. Recruits do this all the time, put a Bama cap on the table when we haven't even offered. Just is what it is.

Yes… I understand all that. All I’m saying is that TVD is using Bama (if that’s the case) to gain financially from it. Do we even know that Saban is interested in him.

No. It's nothing but rumors started by internet trolls (shocking) and just like when the coaching carousel starts in December I believe that Van Dyke's representatives are putting false information out to leverage money from Miami.

I agree with that, but all it takes is a phone call to the university and Saban to asked the question. Are you interested in TVD transferring to Bama and does he have the green light from you?

If Saban says no then TVD whole strategy to gain financially just got bitched slapped. That’s the part I don’t get.

Resolved for who? Entitled fans who think they deserve to know what’s going on behind closed doors?

Saban is not concerned with the rumor mills on random recruiting massage boards, or assuaging fans that are concerned about the roster and transfer portal
