It's so wild how every time something happens with Alabama (football or basketball; usually football) the media overreacts (they really jumped the shark on the Miller story; there was a different side to the story that they completely ignored). They want to divide our fan base and get us to fight amongst ourselves.
You know why? Because they don't have the guts to be what they want to be. They need people like us so they can point their frickin fingers, and say that's the bad guy! So, what's that make them? Good? They're not good. They just know how to hide and how to lie. We don't have that problem. We always tell the truth, even when we lie. So say goodnight to the Bad Guy. The last time you're gonna see a bad guy like this, let me tell ya.

I haven't heard the audio from the discussion in which Saban gave the "wrong place wrong time" statement, but it wouldn't surprise me if a reporter specifically asked the question in that way (i.e., "Coach, is the Tony Mitchell incident simply a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?") and he responded.
On the media wanting to divide / tear down / witch-hunt Alabama: It's not some grand conspiracy*. Alabama is relevant in sports at the moment, that's all. Society as a whole, and the media in particular, has always enjoyed seeing the person at the top of the heap get taken down a notch or two. It's just how we're built.
If Alabama wasn't a regular challenger for the national championship in football, or one of the top teams in basketball this year, none of this would get any airtime outside the state. Folks just wouldn't care (except the Rant people whose lives seem to revolve around this message board).
*Edited to add: It's not a conspiracy among the media overall. I honestly believe it IS the goal of AL.com and a handful of other outlets to portray the University of Alabama and its athletic programs in as bad a light as possible.

Saban said it in his opening statement before he took questions. It starts at around the 2:33 mark once he's done providing injury updates: YouTube video of presser

Ok we’ve had 1 day of spring practice, I’m sure one of our insiders can tell us the starting OL and starting QB by now.

Remember the good 'ol days when we got practice reports? Now we need to analyze the carefully edited ~4 min clips of practice they release as if they were individual Zapruder films
ETA: Based on said footage at the 3:16 mark of this video, I have possible first group at OL as:
LT - Pritchett
LG - Dalcourt
C - McLaughlin
RG - Booker
RT - Ferguson
Didn't see Latham in that drill.
ETA 2: At the 3:39 mark of that same video I got:
LT - Pritchett
LG - Dalcourt
C - McLaughlin
RG - Booker
RT - Latham
So it looks like the coaches are giving Dalcourt a chance to win the LG job.

Not an insider, but based on the entire 10 seconds or so of QB practice footage, it appeared Milroe's throwing motion was a tad quicker than Simpson's. And the man is jacked. That's all I've got, for what it's worth.

I don't care how jacked he is or how quick his motion is.
Can he hit what he's throwing at and does he make good decisions?

The last time we saw Milroe in a real game situation against A&M last year he turned the ball over half a dozen times and nearly had turnovers several other times.

Does anyone recall what Blake Sims looked like through an entire spring camp? One of the worst A-Day performances I can recall. And he ended up being a pretty solid QB in 2014.
That all being said, we are two days into camp. There’s a long way to go with the QB battle.

College football: Ranking every SEC team's projected starting QB in spring tiers
So Ty Simpson isn't the projected starter. Excellent reporting, 247.

REPLACING-GREATS TIER: TY SIMPSON, ALABAMA
Talk to any source around Tuscaloosa and they'll tell you some version of the same storyline — no one knows who will start at quarterback for the Crimson Tide this season under former Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees' new scheme. Alabama knows what it's getting with Jalen Milroe, a raw passer with impressive ability on the move. Simpson's a versatile threat outside of the pocket as well, though his playing time was limited to four games last fall as QB3 behind Bryce Young and Milroe. Whether it's Simpson or Milroe as Alabama's first-teamer, expect notable numbers given the talent around them for the Crimson Tide and historical production at the position under Nick Saban.

I was making a flip remark based on the available 10 seconds of QB practice footage. They didn't even show where the ball was going, so nobody knows who was more accurate on the first day of spring practice. Based on high school footage, I expect Ty Simpson to eventually win the job. He looked more elusive, and a better passer in high school. That's not much to go off of, though, is it? How about we see how they look when they're each given a fair chance in spring and fall practices? Milroe looked rough passing at times when pressed into action last season. But watching Steadman Shealy trying to throw the ball early in his career, I wasn't encouraged, either. He turned out alright.

Alabama had 4 turnovers in the game, 3 fumbles and an interception. Jase McClellan had one of the fumbles. It wasn't a good game for Milroe from a turnover perspective. At least one of his fumbles was while being sacked. While he has great straight line speed, he doesn't seem to be nimble in the pocket. Unfortunately, our OL wasn't the best at pass blocking last year. If Bryce hadn't been a great scrambler, things could have gotten ugly. While he's not as fast as Milroe, Simpson appears to have scrambling ability more like Bryce's.

I don't want to put the cart before the horse but I'm really excited to see Ty Simpson. People assume a major step back with Bryce gone and history has taught us otherwise (most of the time).

The coaches must be encouraged with the QB's, otherwise we would have tested the portal for a transfer earlier. Guess we'll know more after spring practice.

I think that Eli Holstein and Dylan Lonergan are a lot better than people realize. Maybe that was another reason why the coaches didn't go into the portal looking for a new QB.
