If I had a gun, money, and a that much weed in my car I would wait until I got home to blaze a blunt, especially with that skunk weed you can smell 100 yards away.

Ignored the initial headline on Mitchel, assumed he smoked a joint. But this looks like a much bigger deal. He could have been in the wrong car with the wrong guy, but if this is who he is, probably need to move on.

Updates from Saban's presser today:
Tony Mitchell suspended from the team and all team activities ( Potter Tweet)
Lawson and Turner are out for the Spring after having surgery to repair injuries (but nothing to worry about going forward) ( Potter Tweet)
TRob is the DB coach and Steele is overseeing the whole defense (so no separate coach for CB and S) ( Potter Tweet)

Mitchel is a moron. Cut bait and move on. Maybe we can use his spot to snag a great summer portal addition.

I remember how hard we recruited Mitchell and he kept taking visits to A&M and the barn. I was hoping that the immaturity would end there. Apparently I was wrong. He screwed up bad.

Yeah I just don't see it. The concept of "wrong place at the wrong time" isn't even remotely applicable to a situation where a dude ran from the cops at 140mph with guns and half a pound of weed in the car. Mere presence is not a defense to running from the cops when you are the one driving the fricking car. I don't even know why he would say that other than to take a public shot at Oats. Everything else he said was a more than sufficient message to his team about why Tony Mitchell is a stupid frick up who has thrown his life away.

Y’all don’t have to psychoanalyze everything.
But some of you are just bound and determined to pit one side against the other. And it’s always been that way.

Probably because he's trying to send a message to his team that's broader than a single incident.
How many times have you heard Saban speak? I'll assume more than just this one time. As such, you should be aware that he uses individual incidents to teach broad lessons about life.
I can't believe some of you think Saban is thinking about Brandon Miller, Nate Oats, or the basketball team at that moment in time. He literally just finished the first Spring practice and is trying to send a message to his entire team, which includes 20+ Freshmen.

He can do that without using a very particular phrase that his colleague was recently raked over the coals for using to describe his own player's connection to a crime and is not even applicable to what Mitchell did. He would have sent the message without including that particular comment, which he is also completely wrong about. There is absolutely such a thing as being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Maybe there is no ill intent there towards Oats or Miller. I can't read his mind. It just doesn't sit well with me. It was an unnecessary comment and he has to be aware of how using that particular phrase would come across.

You're right, that phrase was never used before Oats uttered it. Even if Saban knew Oats said it at some point this season, I'm sure he has long since forgotten about it, because I find it hard to believe he gives a shite about what Oats says to the media or everyone's reaction to it. He's not scrolling through Twitter, Facebook, and message boards in his spare time.

An adult can understand there might be, but when trying to get the message across to 18-22 year olds, creating a bright-line rule is fine.

No, he absolutely doesn't need to be aware of that. His entire career he's been laser focused on the guys in his locker room. If he thought that phrase was the best way to communicate his point, it doesn't matter how you, Clay Travis, or the rest of the people that don't matter to him feel about it.

If Mitchell was driving a car 140 MPH to run away from cops then I don't even really care if there was weed in his car or not, he should turn in his jersey and hit the transfer portal immediately. I'm not even really sure why he is still here other than just to wait until all the t's are crossed and i's dotted with the legal process I guess.

I absolutely believe in innocent until proven guilty, but Mitchell is absolutely guilty in the court of public perception. Let’s not pretend we actually know why Saban used this phrase. I just don’t see him scrolling through social media or taking the time to read the newspaper. Well, unless it is about “deez nuts” jokes.
None of us will ever know why he said it, and to try and make sense is just spinning wheels. Maybe Mitchell or his family reached out to told Saban “wrong place wrong time” which is why he responded.
I will say based upon his history, he is definitely sending a message to his team and no one else. He has always used things like this whether they be in program or out of program to send a message to his team.
So, unless Saban wants to tell everyone why he said it, which I highly doubt, I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt.

It's so wild how every time something happens with Alabama (football or basketball; usually football) the media overreacts (they really jumped the shark on the Miller story; there was a different side to the story that they completely ignored). They want to divide our fan base and get us to fight amongst ourselves.
