Yeah but think of all the money we have saved not firing head coaches like basically every other school.
Unfortunately in the world of college football that is peanuts

Jeesus Kool was overpaid.

This biggest take away from this is the number of time Nick has misfired on hiring DL coaches recently.

Would he go after a NFL defensive line coach?

Eeeh! I wouldn't go that far. Kool and Baker were highly regarded and i would be willing to bet its more of a talent miss than that of a coaching miss.

How is Roach as a recruiter? I seem to think he’s pretty dang good, but I’m not sure
Like I say , Roach has been to my school over the years off and on while recruiting and kids love him . He knows the south and MS:AL real well.

how many of these DL coaches were thought to be homerun hires, hmm... dare i say most of them. right up until they didn't produce. could it be that these guys were the epitome of the age old saying, trying to fit a square peg into a round hole? trying to make a coach fit the saban system? just thinking out loud here.

As responding to another poster. Sometimes you have to look at the misses on talent and not the Coach. Both Coach's have/had a great reputation coming in. They didnt get that be being a terrible coach. You work with what you have. Just thinking out loud here.

I think it comes down to recruiting and scheme. If they are good recruiters, Saban gives them more time. They may come to Bama from schools that had great penetrating lineman and we expect we will get the same thing , and when they get here , we ask them most of the time to engage, and hold that point of attack and we think our lineman are not being coached . It’s what Saban wants IMO

that very thought crossed my mind as i was typing. most likely, your statement would be closer to accurate. albeit, a combination of both is in play also. because, you have to ask. did these coaches have the cream of the crop prior to their bama days?

Freddie Roach?!? Wow, that came out of left field. Ole Miss confirmed only 2 days ago that Freddie Roach had turned down the New York Giants' offer to become their new D-line coach:

Some background info on Roach:

Roach is recruiting coordinator for Ole Miss so it is safe to say he's a good recruiter.
If true would be a good hire: Alabama guy, knows Saban. Hopefully this is the first step and is hiring Derrick Ansley the next.

As you stated, it could be a combination. I think what most people see is that our DL under Saban for the most part are expected to hold up the DL and the LB to penetrate. We have had some like Allen and Q Williams and now Barramore who don't fit that mold but for the most part we beef them up to hold point.

The fact Coach K and Baker were sent packing after a year tells you the deal.

Once again talk to CNS. Baker is taking a new role but keep on keeping on.

I agree with Cobra. I don't see Neal as a tackle. He would get eaten up by a speed rusher.
