Alabama will soon have a new defensive line coach.

Current defensive line coach Brian Baker is expected to move into an off-field role, AL.com has learned.

Former Alabama player and staffer Freddie Roach is the name to keep an eye on for that defensive line job, according to sources. Roach is expected to be in Tuscaloosa Monday, per sources.

Roach, who worked for the Crimson Tide in a support staff capacity in 2015 and 2016, just finished his third season as the defensive line coach at Ole Miss.

I'm pumped to have Freddie back. I think it's an awesome hire seeing as though Baker may stay in an off the field role.

Me too - I've hoped Freddie would work his way back here ever since he became a respected SEC coach.

Love that guy

Assistant HC at Ole Miss at age 36. Judge wanted him as D-line coach with the Giants. Seems that there is a lot of potential there.

As long as Freddie isn’t coaching receivers, we should be fine

I’ve never seen a linebacker drop so many interceptions in my life.

Hahahahaha my gosh, he dropped at least 10 interceptions that hit him right in his hands

He had that big cast on at one point, then it came off and he still couldn't catch. I feel like there was one specific game where it happened like 3 out of 4 plays or something insane, maybe Arkansas in 2005?

This will also be the 3rd time Saban has hired him in different capacities so he is obviously a good fit within the program. I think this is a good hire.

Baw, are you forgetting his interception that secured the Win over powerhouse Middle Tennessee State in 2002? Prevented us from blowing a 22-0 lead.
