I appreciate the possi-bammer stuff. I really do. I am possi-bammer myself. But let's think realistically. While everyone feels like Jaylen is a wonderful person and we have no personal animosity against him, coming out of last fall no-one was excited about our prospects with him as QB - except Father2Sons.
We recognized that he was incapable of reading defenses, processing things and checking down. He stared down his receivers. He did not throw the ball particularly well, and in the one game he started he was a turnover machine.
Everyone was not only hoping, but saw it as critical, that someone needed to step up and take the job from Milroe. Going into spring we hoped Simpson would do it. A-Day game - Milroe was still not processing well and threw an inexcusable interception deep in his own territory where he just blindly threw the ball down the middle of the field. So, going into the summer we desperately hoped that Simpson would improve and take over by fall. Some rumblings started about Lonergan. We hit the portal and picked up Buchner and everyone was like, "What?!?!"
Fall scrimmages, Milroe is still not processing quickly and he's staring down receivers. Rumors are that he's still putting the ball on the ground in practices. Coaches start talking about true freshman, Lonergan.
The point is NOT that I think that Simpson, Buchner or Lonergan has beaten out Milroe. The point is that none of them have, and we really needed one of them to do so. If Milroe were drastically improved over last year, with his athletic ability he should have sewn up the starting role weeks ago.
Now, getting away from feelings and wishful conjecture, somebody prove me wrong.
One argument is that if he doesn't play well, then next man up. The next man up couldn't beat him out in the fall. That's my point. We are screwed.
Like most of you, I truly hope I am wrong. Yet, what is the most likely end to all of this?
Prepare to beat inferior teams handily. Beat some good teams, at times comfortably. However, championship calibre teams will probably beat us. We will see frustrating turnovers, inability at times to score against better defenses, and will struggle to keep up with dynamic offenses. Even the 2020 defense had to lean on the offense to win a few games. CFB today is way too slanted toward the offense. The maxim has been reversed. Great offense beats great defense. Having both is needed.
I hope I am wrong about all of this, but I'm not.

Georgia has serious issues with running back depth. They lost their best back for the season on Wednesday and they’re going to be playing walk ons. At some point that will catch up with them.

I hope and pray that Ferguson moves into the line up at some point.

Bingo. This is what you are getting with Milroe. We will see more of the same against MTSU and Texas. Hopefully when the lights turn on someone takes the job. Otherwise we are in another situation where when good defenses shut down the run and stack the box we’re screwed.
How many times did hurts roll to the right and throw it out of bounds. Those Auburn, LSU, Clemson in Nola, and UGA (Natty) games were ugly. Thank god back then we had a great defense.

Very small sample size, and it is possible for people to continue to grow, learn and improve.
I don't care who wins the job, but I'm certain it will be the best we have to lead the team. I'm 100% behind whoever suits up and takes the field at any point in time this season.

These things are pretty common with a green QB.

Besides that one bad int, I thought that he played pretty decent. And it's a spring game. Plenty of great Bama QBs have thrown bad ints in a spring game.

Idk man, I feel like we've heard as much or more good about Milroe in spring and fall practice as we have bad. There has been plenty of positive talk.

How many championships did we win between the 4 years of both Bryce and Tua being full time starters? They were great QBs, but there is a lot more to winning championships than just having an elite QB.
No one was excited about Coker, and he struggled for a lot of the season in 2015.
McCarron was great for us, but he wasn't the elite player that Tua and Bryce were. We won 2 with him.
It seems that many people here don't have much respect for Stetson Bennett as a QB, yet...
And sure, the game is more geared towards passing now, but my point is if you have a dominant running game, and a top 10 defense, then you can still win championships with a non-elite QB. Winning a championship is about the TEAM.
With game experience, Milroe will get better and better, and more comfortable IMO. And the fact that he can routinely pick up huge chunks of yards with his feet is a huge asset. BoB is out the door, and we have a young, hungry OC that isn't looking to sling the ball all over the field, but be more efficient, control the game, and bully our opponents. I think we have the tools for that.
To act like we are fricked with Milroe is such a lame, defeatist attitude to have.

I'm with you on all of this. I was thinking about posting something similar, but everybody already hates me on here for being a "troll".
If we take off the crimson sunglasses and stop the wishful thinking, do we have a single reason to be optimistic?
We know Milroe is not a good QB. The fact that nobody has been able to beat him out is BAD news.
We don't have a single known commodity on offense. Not a single returning playmaker at any position - not even OL.
Our defense has underperformed for years now, and we're all WISHFULLY THINKING that Kevin Steele will make a big difference and make our defense dominant again. Possibly, but how dominant can a defense really be in today's cfb?
We're coming off of our worst season since 2010 despite having the number 1 overall pick at QB. Now we don't even have a QB, but people think we're better off?
The WRs dropping passes has been an issue for the last 2 seasons, and these drop issues only seem to be getting worse - not better.
I see absolutely no reason to be optimistic at all right now, and trust me I'm trying. I don't think 8-4 is out of the realm of possibility right now.
Everyone thinks I'm some doomer fan or a troll, but I predicted that we'd go undefeated last year. Even after some early warning signs, I still thought we'd get it together and win the NC. I'm not a permanently negative fan, but this year's team just seems like a mess.
Like the rest of you all, I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. Maybe one of the other QBs will step up and surprise us all, but it ain't gonna be Milroe.

We all thought Blake Sims was going to be a disaster and he led us to the playoffs.
Why don't we actually watch a game before we declare the season a failure?

Excellent, so you have a track record of being wrong with your predictions. So if you think we're an 8-4 team this year, I guess I should prepare for an undefeated, championship season!
You and LovetheLord should really get in touch with Sean. Y'all would really hit it off.
