That didn't seem to hurt the feelings of receivers like Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, and Calvin Ridley when they were recruited to Alabama. They knew we were a run-first team.

Saban addressed this during the press conference, although he was talking about the QBs. It applies to the WRs as well.

Basically, MAKE US PLAY YOU. Don't wait for the coaching staff to make a decision -- force the decision by making it clear you're the best option.

For the WRs, that means running the correct route, getting open, and catching the ball. If you don't do that, there's no reason why we should bother targeting you -- it's a wasted play.

The problem we are going to have is deciding how much to run the ball.

It’s hard to change offensive styles in the transfer portal/NIL era.

You need to run an offense that takes advantage of the strength of your personnel. Right now, our strength appears to be the running game. However, once Sayin and Williams (and Ffrench the year after) get to campus, we may see a shift back to a heavier passing attack.

But who knows, this is all conjecture. No one knows what exactly the offense is going to look like with Milroe/Simpson/Buchner/Lonergan at QB and Rees at OC.

How nuclear will this place go if the offense comes out like this against MTSU

The game threads are already a clown show whine fest pretty much every single game. Probably wouldn't be too much different from the usual.

All of those receivers you mentioned were unselfish players. The problem with the transfer portal/NIL era is that you are seeing a lot less unselfish players.

This is my point. I agree it shouldn’t matter what offense we run. The goal is to win. However, you are naive to think that recruiting multiple top 15 receivers and not giving them the ball is going to go over well in todays time.

This is why Burton left Georgia. He did not like the offense which premiered RBs and TEs.

I would much prefer Georgia’s offense, but after Tua we went buck fricking wild recruiting WRs.

Earlier in this thread we were talking about Oatis' physical transformation since he got on campus and after listening to Saban's press conference last night where he mentioned Keenan, I went back to look at his transformation since HS. Really impressive, especially with the injury he suffered at the end of his HS career.

In HS:

Saban has spoken highly of Keenan recently. I’m looking for him to be pretty impactful this year. Saw a tweet that said he was running DT with the 1s, with Oatis on his left and Eboigbe on his right. If Keenan can effectively anchor the middle and give us some optionality with Oatis… sheesh, watch out.

heard Cole cublic this morning change his prediction from LSU winning the West to Alabama winning the west. And he said it doesnt have anything to do with the LSU player being suspended for the FSU game, because that doesnt have anyting to do with who wins the West. Cole said it is because of some things he has learned, been made aware of, found out about. He said he wasnt going to say what it was that he has learned, been made aware of. (Must be the little birdie that used to talk to 101Bama Mike).

This is interesting, I wonder what it could be? Maybe coach is sandbagging on the QB's? I mean I think everyone knew we would be nasty on D. Purely excitement and speculation on my part, but other than QB the only real unknowns were a few OL guys, and maybe some position battles on D that seemed like we would be in good shape regardless.

I listened this morning and he seemed to hint it was about our oline being really big and bully ball coming back. I might be wrong but he kinda hinted at that.

Well if there is one thing Cubelic knnows it's O-line. That's kind of his bread and butter.

Cautiously optimistic about the news I’m hearing on the OL and D. If both of those units are elite we can beat anyone

I hope this is true. The whole thing with the QB battle might be to throw people off the trail. Make it look like we are a pass first team, then we come out and pound the rock.

The OL has the potential to be really, really good and pretty damn mean IMO.

You pair that with:
-a very deep and talented RB group
-two high level TEs
-A mobile QB who requires a spy

At that point if we get any of our 8 or so highly talented WRs to step up and find a QB who can be consistent with the short and intermediate passing game we are back to being “Bama”.

I’d argue the last two years we were closer to a B12 air raid team than we were the 2020 Alabama offense because we were soft as **** up front.

There’s nothing wrong with being pass heavy as long as you can still go power when you need it, but the last two years we couldn’t and it was horrible for our offensive consistency.

I hope we are run first. I’d rather see Milroe RPOs with a little passing sprinkled in.

I actually think that Alabama has three high level tight ends with Niblack, Dippre and Lewis. I wouldn’t exactly call Outzs a high level athlete but he’s experienced and can block at a high level. Lewis makes some impressive one handed catches in the practice videos.

I really think the talk about QB competition is mostly that Saban needs multiple guys ready to play because this is going to be a run heavy team that leans on the QB run a bit more with Milroe than past teams.
