That's a good thing. And, I'm not surprised. In the A game the kid just looked like he belonged. Hopefully, the other QBs will step up too. But, if not, and Lonergan is the only QB who makes Saban play him so be it.

I would add that Lonegran really impressed me in a closed spring scrimmage

If he is taking ANY reps with the ones at this point in fall camp, he has a legit shot at the job. They aren't wasting those to get a backup reps when trying to figure out the starter.
In my mind, if that's true, and he's worked his way up to getting 1 reps. We should start him and take any growing pains. Because the position would be solidified for at least 3 years.

Lonergan has gotten snaps with 2s. Simpson got reps with the 1s earlier this week too. They're trying to give everyone opportunities to see if they run with them.

I understand he was going against lesser competition, but if we dont have a "the guy" yet, I say why not throw him out with the ones and see if he can swim. Baby Brody was slinging it at A-day.

Amen. You will never convince me that snapping the ball 7 yards back when you need 1 or less is a good idea. The bottom line is it gives the defense too much time to react to the snap and the direction of flow. I'll take my chances under center with the backs lined up directly behind the guard's asses for blocking or pushing the QB forward. Silent count or first sound and whip the arse in front of you. If you don't get the yard like that, well, they just flat out beat you then.

How many times do you see the line up under center push the pile getting stopped nowadays ? I’d run it like that 2 times before I went into shotgun

If true, that can’t be good for us as it relates to the Milroe/Simpson discussion. If it’s to the point where the presumed 4th/5th stringer is getting 1st string looks we may be in trouble.

This is just me...
Lonergan played good in the ADay game because there was no pressure on him so to speak. He literally played FREE! Now is he good? Probably, who knows? I just don't see him winning the job this season.
I don't understand why fans are so impressed with his performance though maybe it was his (poise & accuracy)...I'm impressed by his potential but he wasn't the best overall quarterback that day.
He didn't adjust his pass protection at the line of scrimmage, he didn't change a play or plays at the line of scrimmage, he didn't get guys lined up correctly, nor did he play through an injury.
Only one quarterback did that! He was BETTER than the rest that day. He played effectively through an injury.
MENTAL TOUGHNESS!
I mean...those are SIGNS of a leader. People will try to discredit it but we can go breakdown the ADay film. #HonestTruth

He looked like he had SEC level QB upside in the future. Arm strength, accuracy, etc...

You can be excited about the future for a player without thinking he's going to be a day 1 QB starter for a top 5 team. Of the 4 starters we have in the NFL, only Jalen started day 1 and that was due to necessity.

All of that is true, but some of the older guys weren't doing much of that either most of the day, although I definitely saw TS do it at times.
I haven't seen a single Bama fan say they hope that Dylan Lonergan is the starter against MTSU, only that if everyone else fails to step up we should go with the younger guy and take our lumps if he looks better. Feels like you might be reading too much into positive vibes around a super raw TF QB at a time when there were major questions around the rest of the room.

Lonergan has been raising eyebrows since he stepped on campus. If he's getting more reps right now, my guess would be we aren't happy with the other guys and they're considering working him into the lineup at some point in the season, if it comes to that. I don't think there's any way he starts early in the season. But, if nobody else really wins the job, I could see him getting more and more game time to see how he handles it.

Lonergan definitely has it between the ears to play. I'm not talking intelligence or game smarts. Rather, I'm talking confidence. He didn't carry himself like a true freshman in the A game and he didn't play like he was scared to mess up. That's a big part of being QB at a place like Bama. Confidence.
