Unless you are the head coach, why wouldn't it be a stepping stone?

Not having Saban coach will end it for a while once we find someone decent. Grubb was never fully committed and never coached a down for Bama. That said, you can’t expect someone successful to not accept a better opportunity.

What do you mean stepping stone? Nothing is a destination for coordinators.

I don't think this was a stepping stone for Grubb. Grubb was upfront with Deboer and with our AD. He wanted to remain in Washington because his wife/family really did not want to move. He wanted either Seattle or UW. He went for the UW job and didn't get it. He didn't get the Seattle OC until Kelly took the OSU job. He was the backup plan to Kelly.

Unfortunately for him, the most likely path is that he will fall on his face and be fired next year. He has had no real success without DeBoer, has zero experience in the NFL, and if the Seahawks have a bad record next year, he will be the scapegoat.

Short of going back to losing to NIU, UCF, La Tech, etc, on a regular basis, no, not really.

Any way for us to stop assistants from leaving for higher paying jobs? Yes, we could hire coaches so crappy no one else would want them. Barring that, one way might be to dangle a cash or other bonus (house, etc.) in front of them. If they leave early they don't get the carrot. Would work for some people, who wouldn't want to lose something they've put time in for. Seems like the Barn used that for some of their coaches years ago.

Which is another reason a man shouldn't let a woman dictate his decision-making.

While most coaches seem to be ambitious by nature, with all this NIL and portal stuff to contend with, I wonder if more coaches don’t just remain as coordinators where you can make a killing and avoid unneeded stress.

You’re either divorced or never married. I’m not saying a wife will dictate but if you’re a real man keeping in mind the happiness of your family is like the bare minimum as a husband and father that’s required to even be decent at the job.

I don't blame Grubb. He doesn't have to move his family and he gets a better job. I imagine he will be fired if Seattle doesn't do well next year, so maybe he comes to Bama after all. Who knows.

Grubb's wife is a very prominent Doctor in a specialized
field. She did not want to move her practice. She probably
makes more than he does.

Lol. She is not that kind of doctor. I can assure you he is the bread winner. Plus they were in Washington for maybe two years. Not established.

Anyway you can choose to believe it or not but my inner circle of people fully believe that she refused to move to Alabama when Nick Saban asked and she refused when DeBoer asked. Therefore Grubb is in Seattle. Simple. End of story. Time to move along.

Regardless of the reason, he's gone. Continuing discussion of him is sort of pointless, he isn't relevant to Alabama football. I'm looking forward to seeing how the coaching staff positions are filled.

Yeah, we can hire shite coordinators no one wants. Saban tried that and we all hated it.

The only way to stop Alabama being a stepping stone to the NFL is to hire bad coaches.

I agree completely. Who on this board would just want to up and move to opposite end of the country? Also NFL OC for any team beats being a coordinator for any college team
