I heard UGA was going to pay him 1.5 million dollars but cannot confirm that.

We had a deal for $1MM. UGA had $1.5MM. I supposed OSU paid $2MM.

you can’t build a cohesive team around 85 entitled shits.

Call me crazy but ive wondered if the lack of discipline with the last several Bama teams didn't have something to do with an overabundance of raw talent mixed with a lack of team chemistry.

I keep hearing these types of numbers thrown around but I’m skeptical, especially on unproven HS kids (yes I know Downs is proven). They’re handing 18-19 year olds $2MM to play college football? Is it a lump sum? Is it paid in monthly paychecks? Is it direct deposit from the NIL group or a booster? Is it contingent on them playing a certain amount of years, making certain numbers like tackles, INTs, other stats? How do the other players feel who are getting only, say, $10 grand a month? I can’t wrap my head around it.

The best part is when another school promises Downs 2.5 million and he transfers from Ohio State.

We're just seeing the beginning of this. All these schools paying millions for a kid to come play, only to have him leave next year for a bigger paycheck.

It’s usually paid out by semester is what another poster said.

These NIL numbers are all fake. NIL payments are not public information.

Also, how many OSU players will hate this kid over this rumor? How many will transfer during the next portal?

It’s not good for the locker room even at Bama. If you are a three year player at a school, did the grind, paid your dues, you’re next up for the safety spot. Downs comes in for $$ and now you are on the bench. I guess you transfer out in the spring and on it goes like dominoes.

There needs to be some smart people with vision to clean all of it up and it sure as hell is not the government or NCAA.

The rumor is he’s getting paid 2 million.

Hope they keep the rest of the team happy. I’d be pissed if I was Sonny Styles and I didn’t get a pay bump.

OSU fans are probably happy but they got a center who can’t snap and BOB. Downs doesn’t cancel those two out even if he has two hundred tackles next year.

Let's be fair.....Kiffin did get Trey Amos.

The only reason OM got Amos is money. That and that alone. It had nothing to do with Saban or DeBoer or Kiffin. The portal opened and OM went after Amos who was for sale. I'm not even being critical of Amos - that is his prerogative. But I certainly don't blame DeBoer or Alabama, they weren't going outside of their NIL model to keep a good, not great player. They wouldn't do it for Downs, who I don't blame either, that's part of the game now. The problem is the system that the adults set up or allowed to happen.

But to the OP's original point - you are exactly right. Now UGA is stuck with someone who is a good CB coach but a mediocre DC, as their DC.

Dabo died on the hill about the portal but you have to wonder how much problem it does cause when you bring in starters from the outside over the top of those trying to get to the top. Bama signed two DB's in Amos and Law to come and take the spot of many guys in the DB room. That has to be a problem. I believe Mr Little was trying to explain that in his tweet/video.

And UGA already hired a DB coach from USC. No doubt Kirby was trying to chip away at Bama’s roster and staff.
