As everyone knows we've struggled to put together 2 good halves of offensive football all year. On the flip side, we've yet to have 2 horrible halves of football this year (USF aside, which truly doesn't matter from this perspective due to the QB situation).

Keep in mind these stats are only offensive drives (any pts scored by defense aren't included) and do not include drives where we killed the clock to end the game (A&M last drive, Ole Miss last drive) or garbage time drives (last 2 drives vs State up 20 in the 4Q, every 2nd half drive vs MTSU after the 1st of the 3rd qtr).

Just to give an idea of how numbers compare, here are the Top 5, fringe Top 25 and bottom 5 in points per drive for the season nationally.

1. Michigan (4.42)
2. Oregon (4.11)
3. LSU (3.91)
4. Georgia (3.73)
5. Washington (3.62)

23. Maryland (2.77)
24. Memphis (2.72)
25. Louisville (2.71)
26. Ohio State (2.71)
27. Penn St (2.71)

129. Akron (1.11)
130. Indiana (1.07)
131. Charlotte (0.99)
132. East Carolina (0.89)
133. Kent state (0.89)

The 2.49 1st half PPD would rank #44 nationally (Texas St is #44 at 2.49).

The 2.97 2nd half PPD would rank right around #16 nationally (Mizzou is #16 at 2.96).

We average about 12 drives per game. Below are if you used our 1st half, 2nd half, and broke it out by caliber of defense played.

LSU is ranked #62 and is missing their most disruptive interior player (Wingo - #2 sacks, #4 TFL) and both cornerbacks. Against the 3 worst defenses we've played (2 of which are statistically better than LSU, one worse) we've come out and scored 20+ 1st half points. In 2 of them, the 2nd half was pretty quickly out of reach and hit garbage time in the 3rd or very early 4th. In the 3rd, the Arkansas game happened.

The offense has shown extended periods of very good play against good defense (3rd qtr Texas, 2nd half A&M, 2nd half Tennessee, 2nd half Ole Miss) but have also shown long stretches of rough (1st half Texas, 1st half Ole Miss, 1 half Tennessee, 2nd half Arkansas).

Wow, well done George.

Like it’s been said we should be able to run and pass against this defense. They will have a harder time with ours in my opinion.

Like you noted if they can score 20pts in the first half like they have done against all teams in the LSU range this might be ballgame. LSU also has 500 yrds in every game besides FSU when they had 450ish. I'm gonna be watching that number as well for the D.

Are you allowed to have coordinators that make adjustments in game?

Whatever happened against Tennessee with adjustments needs to happen from now on.

Is it just me or does LSU always have a player named Mingo, Wingo or ——-cheaux on their team?

Georgia and the Beetles had Ringo, and according to Elaine on Seinfeld, "the Dingo ate your baby."

They gave up 527 yards and 39 points to Mizzou.

Even including the USF game, Missouri has the closest FEI offense to ours so they are a pretty good proxy for how we might perform.
LSU also gives up a ton of big plays as well which might help us even if we struggle to grind out 6-7 minute drives.

Opp Adj Defensive PPD
-UGA (7)
-Florida State (11)
-Bama (14)
-A&M (19)
-UT (33)
*LSU (103) ...

Our defense tracks very closely to Florida State, against whom LSU went for 24 points and 459 yards total offense.

What I believe went wrong for LSU is they couldn’t sustain drives because they were only running the ball for 4 YPC whereas FSU was hitting them for 11 YPA and an incredible number of explosive pass plays even with some of the DBs who are out Saturday.

Bottom line, LSU is easily the worst P5 defense we’ve played YTD even before looking at their injuries. They give up big plays all over the field and somehow aren’t any good at rushing the passer effectively.

I expect them to spy Milroe meaning they will stretch their coverage even further and we will have guys open all over the place against a truly horrible and inexperienced secondary.

This game will come down to whether our defense can get a couple stops/FGs and whether Milroe is ready for the big stage or not because playing one half of football against arguably the best offense in CFB isn’t gonna cut it.

Always

Georgia and Florida seem to have some reoccurring names throughout the years as well

As frustrating as our offense can be, the floor has been consistent even against good defenses. Makes you wonder if we could clean a few things up and add one more touchdown per game

There is no doubt. Hell, we've probably had a TD/game avg taken off the board this year due to dumb penalties. Of course some of those were defensive/st, but yeah, there have been several touchdowns that were left on the field this season.

I mean haven’t we had ~5 TDs called back YTD?

Add those in, consider the pick in the end zone against UT and remove the USF debacle the offense is probably top 20.

Just removing USF probably bumps us up 10 spots from an efficiency standpoint.
