Meridian (Miss.) safety C.J. Hampton will make his third trip of the season to Tuscaloosa this Saturday to watch the Crimson Tide take on LSU in Bryant-Denny stadium. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder is excited to get back on campus and spend some time with his friends Alabama commit Cameron Robinson and target Laurence Jones.

“I am just anxious to get down there on the campus and tour the place some more. I get to hang out with Hootie and Cam, so it should be cool," said Hampton. "This is just going to be an unofficial visit and I will take my official visit there later. I am not sure yet when that will be.

The Magnolia State product also likes the idea of playing alongside Jones at the next level, but he also understands that would be a luxury and not a necessity.

“We have talked about playing together before. It would be a nice secondary if we did play together, but we have to do what is best for ourselves.”

Nuggets

-Hootie will not be taking his OV this weekend as previously reported; He is looking to reschedule; Pressure from some family and friends to stay home, but not his immediate family (distant relatives ); Still feel Alabama is the leader
-Matt Elam's mom may follow him if he decides to go out of state; If he comes to Bama for his OV on December 13th, then he is ours
-Made of ground for Da'Shawn Hand; Originally wanted study Engineering and that's what he would be doing if he chooses Bama; Apparently he doesn't like cold weather
-Staff is turning up the heat on D-Lineman Charles Mosley, Josh Frazier, JUCOs Abu Lamin, Jarran Reed, Lance McDowell, Terrell Clinkscales, and Tarow Barney; Staff wants to close with at least two D-Lineman
-CJ Hampton is still considered a heavy lean to Bama by sources; He will probably have a final decision next month; He is an EE
-Christian Miller is more solid than a few weeks ago
-Elisha Shaw named us his leader but his neck is a major area of concern
-Watch out for USCw with Talamaivao
-Bo is enjoying the process, but a flip can't be ruled out
-Don't expect Davion Hall in this class
-We have made a push for Rashaan Evans over the last few weeks which coincided with a visit from Rumph

Does that mean Hootie isn't coming at all or just coming for an unofficial visit? If he doesn't come at all for Bama's biggest home game of the year then that's bad.

He's coming this weekend on an unofficial visit and will be returning at some point for an official. I assume this would push his announcement date back due to the Chattanooga game (our last home game) conflicting with his planned OV to LSU for their game with A&M.

We would have the Iron Bowl the next weekend, and then the SEC Championship game the following week. He won't be able to visit until the first of December, hence the feeling that his announcment date will be pushed back again.

Barton Simmons on Kalvarez Bessent and Chris Williams:

quote:

This week for CSS, I'll be doing the color commentary for the Camden County vs Colquitt County game. I just got off the phone with Coach Coffey from Camden County to talk about the game. Just thought I'd pass on what he had to say about Bessent and Williams the two Bama DB commits.

Williams has 6 interceptions on the season this year and he has 363 yards rushing on offense. Bessent has one pick and 255 yards rushing on O. It's a wing T offense that spreads the ball around to about 8 different guys.

Defensively, it sounds like some schools are staying away from Bessent and Williams is making them pay.

As far as skill set, Coach didn't say this specifically but i got the impression that Williams could have even more long term upside. Bessent is about 6-0, maybe a shade under and he's around 175 pounds. He's the one with all of the cornerback instincts, the quick twitch athleticism that allows him to make a lot of plays in space, defend the quick game, etc. Williams is all of 6-1, 185 pounds and coach said he doesn't fudge. He's the one that's got more physical upside. While Bessent may be a little bit more explosive in short areas, Williams has that 'go get it' ballhawking type of ability. He's got great ball skills and can really high point the football with the best of them.

I'm excited to see them play. I saw them last year and Williams was hurt while Bessent made a few plays but Camden County is so loaded and the talent so spread out that i only got a snap shot of him.

As for younger guys, Camden County has a junior very much in the mold of current UGA freshman JJ Green named Antonio Wimbush. He's got 5 picks and is second on the team in rushing with 458 yards. They've got several other sophomores that are likely going to emerge as prospects.

Really? Is he getting this from grandparents or aunts and uncles? If it is the former, i get it, but I don't feel like aunts and uncles should really be involved in this decision. His parents absolutely should be involved though.

They didn't elaborate. They did include "friends" with the distant relatives though. I forgot to put that. I'll edit.

Williams could be very good with his range at the nickel spot a lot like Geno Smith.

I'm FSU alumni and was at the Miami game. Got tix from a buddy who is still on staff from when I did my grad work with athletic dept there.

Saw a ton of their recruits on visit, but when I saw MH I couldn't help but yell out "Roll Tide, Marlon!"

Him and the girl he was with (girlfriend or sister?) looked up and smiled.

I know this doesn't mean anything but I got a kick out of it. Other people around me, not so much.

I might be making this up, but didn't Scalici originally predict Hootie to LSU a month ago? Wonder what made him change his mind?

Got enough threads on the board right now, so I'll leave this here.

quote:

USA Today's poll of more than two dozen Heisman voters has McCarron fourth overall and receiving six third-place votes. Mariota was the front-runner there too.

quote:

ESPN's Desmond Howard, the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner, told AL.com he's high on McCarron being part of the conversation. "He should definitely be in the mix," Howard said. "You talk Mariota, you talk Winston, I think he should be the third guy you talk about. I made a strong case for him on our show this past Saturday."

Don't like this BS with Hootie one frickin bit...really don't

No doubt in my mind that the "powers that be" surrounding his immediate family will try all they can to keep his Mom from being able to visit Tuscaloosa...no coincidence that Bama's biggest home game against a rival and the other team he's considering and the weekend he set for an OV to bring his family...also remember when his original announcement date was, right after this game...and all of a fricking sudden it gets totally fricked because of some other engagement that I'm sure was a spur of the moment thing because they wouldn't have set up an OV a couple weeks ago

Don't like it at all......

Best thing for him to do at this point is set the OV and tell NO ONE and just show up, that is my opinion on the best plan of action going forward and if that doesn't happen his Mom who seems to be the deciding factor will never make it on campus

As someone on this board likes to say, forget what these kids SAY. Concentrate on what they DO. Hootie now has axed an OV to our most prestigious home game against the other team we are recruiting against. And pushed back his announcement when all the momentum for his announced date pointed to Bama. I think Hootie's gone.

Same applies to MH. Spending a lot of time with FSU - a lot of that at his own effort and expense. He may be a kid that wants to make his own mark out of his day's shadow. I think at this point it looks to me that MH is all but gone.

Pump the brakes there, Chief.

Hootie is still coming this weekend.

Marlon is the biggest troll in this year's class.

We're fine.
