Muss leaving Arkansas for Minnesota would be an absolute head scratcher, regardless of family ties.

I'd be shocked.

Dan Wolken going after Dan Dakich

If you could put the Dan Dakich who calls college basketball games on ESPN a couple times a week into a box and lock the rest of his personality away, you’d likely come to the conclusion that he is a very good analyst and a reasonable human being and never really think about him again.

I mean, this part is objectively false. Dakich is not a good analyst by any measure. He's a fricking idiot.

(I am) a realist and not a sunshine pumper.

You are not a realist, you are a pessimist. A realist would acknowledge that Alabama is 20-6 (15-2), SEC Regular Season Champions with room to spare, projected to be a safe 2 seed at the moment. A team that has a great defense and an erratic offense (as is the case with many teams, especially those who depend heavily on the three). They play hard if not always efficiently, but they always find a way to score 60+, even when the offense is not attractive. They are a wonderful, gritty, tough-minded Alabama team with shortcomings. And they have performed short-handed (Bruner) or weakened (Herb) through a third of the season. IMO, this is a "realistic" evaluation of this Alabama team.

Nothing wrong with their shortcomings (I upvote some respectful criticisms myself) being mentioned in the overall context of appreciation for them. In my unimportant opinion, your posts are reasonable, except for your view of yourself as a realist.

I have not seen you call them "weak minded" or "lazy, mentally weak" or "our offense has been shite", etc., like a few who's constant harping on perceived and real team shortcomings is tiring. They sound like little 13 year olds, stomping and spitting and whining until the game is won, then a little relief :-).

I just wish we could finish at the basket consistently. If we could do that we would be 23-3 and a guaranteed 1 seed.

If we can learn to do that we would with the SEC tournament and be one of the toughest outs in the NCAA tourney.

He is getting a big one without this so I don't think he has anything to do with it......yet

I think that will come with recruits. If you really look at this team, we have two guys, JQ and Shack, three if you count Herb, that can consistently beat their guy off the dribble. Neither JQ or Shack play above the rim. So, a lot of their finishes are very tough shots over bigger athletic guys. The rest of the team, Herb included either can't handle the ball well enough to beat their guy, or they just don't have great touch (see Herb, although he's much better this year, when healthy).

So the options are usually JQ and Shack having to try circus shots, or a guy that struggles to get to the rim, or Herb, who has been injured a lot and is inconsistent with his touch anyway.

I think this will only improve with recruits who are both skilled and athletic. As much as I love our guys, they aren't all physically created in a lab by Oats to his exact specifications. Ideally, he wants long guys that can dribble, shoot, and finish at the rim.

Yeah, he's probably going to be getting something in the neighborhood of what Oats just got don't you think?

This is from Torvik's site. Using the offense/defensive efficiency numbers for each team from the last 3 weeks (how are you playing right now) to simulate the SEC Tournament.

It's always in the completely wrong context too. You want to see a mentally weak team? Watch the last 6 minutes of a Kentucky game. Want to see a lazy team? Watch an LSU game and pay particular attention to their defense. Meanwhile we tend to play some of our best basketball in crunch time and have the best defense in the conference. But yes, totally mentally weak and lazy.

The worst part is we know what mentally weak looks like - we watched it for 10 years.

How on earth can you be an Alabama basketball fan who has watched basketball the last 10 seasons and then watch this team and audibly say that we are mentally weak

Ala vs. 8/9 seed next Friday, 11am cst.

#7 (7-7) Miz (@ Fla, LSU)
#8 (7-9) Ken (SCar)
#9 (7-9) MSU (@A&M, Aub)
#10 (7-10) UGa (Ala)

Do we really care which one we get between Miz/Ken? Both seem about equally dangerous, both up and down.
