The biggest change in our offense from the first half of conference play where we were world beaters, and the second half (including @ Oklahoma) is Primo. We have GOT to find a way to get him going.
First 9 games:
Primo 1st 9 SEC games:
PPG: 11.3
3PT: 20/41 (48.8%)
Primo last 9 (8 SEC + OU)
PPG: 6.0
3PT: 7/17 (41.2%)
I also found a really interesting split on Primo over those 18 games.
Primo HOME (9gms):
PPG: 7.0
3PT: 9/25 (36.0%)
Primo AWAY (9gms):
PPG: 10.3
3PT: 18/33 (54.5%)
Rest of Team HOME (9gms):
PPG: 76.8
3PT: 90/250 (36.0%)
Rest of Team AWAY (9gms):
PPG: 66.6
3PT: 88/240 (36.7%)

The offensive flow has been good lately for the most part, we're just not consistently making shots. Last night we did it for the first 10 minutes then for the last 10 minutes.
Yeah it feels like we're *this close* to another hot streak, but right now we're just getting our shots to fall for half a game instead of 30+ minutes of a game. The offense has gotten back to creating good shots and having good possessions lately outside of the Arkansas game. But honestly with the exception of teams like Gonzaga that are merciless basketball machines 98% of March is about getting hot at the right time. If we do get hot we can beat any team in the country, Michigan, Baylor, and Gonzaga included. If we don't get hot again our ceiling is likely Sweet 16, and if we get that far and lose I would have no complaints unless it's because of ref frickery.

I mean, if you look at the 3 week rolling average chart, our current trajectory looks a lot like late December/early January.
So, I'm gonna go ahead and say that March = January and we win the national title

This is totally random and not specific to basketball, but I've never seen a fanbase that has more detailed discussion about their local sports talk radio lineups, hosts, rumors, comings and goings, etc than LSU does with whatever the Baton Rouge ESPN station is.
They have in depth discussions about it like it's a sports team on a regular basis. It's bizarre.

I mean that looks excellent other than the offense falling off a cliff at the start of February and even that is showing a strong and steady climb back up to respectable since it bottomed out. We just need to keep grinding the offense back up the chart, keep the defense where it's been for two months now and let the chips fall where they may.

And, look, I know Gonzaga is great and played a tough nonconference schedule, but it's a lot easier not to have bad games when half your schedule is made up of teams like Pacific and San Diego. Even the very best teams will have some games where a lot doesn't go right. The flaws are also magnified when it's your team and you're watching every play.

Thanks for quantifying this with stats.
I've wondered the same regarding Primo, but have never looked at his actual numbers.

Your comprehensive guide to the 2021 college basketball coaching hot seat
quote:
The coaching carousel started spinning earlier than usual this season, with jobs at Penn State and Wichita State opening before the season even began and Boston College and Fordham making moves with more than a month left in the season. Wichita State has since promoted interim head coach Isaac Brown to the permanent job, but the other three positions are still open -- and they aren't the only ones.
After last year's coaching carousel saw fewer than 30 changes in a cycle impacted by the coronavirus pandemic -- as opposed to the usual 50-60 -- we're expecting a busier carousel this season. But how busy?
To get you prepared for the next two months of coaching changes, here's a look at the biggest storylines, jobs and names to watch.
quote:
Big names to watch
Nate Oats, Alabama: I'm only including Oats to mention that he likely shouldn't be listed as a candidate for any job that opens, even if it's Indiana or Arizona. Oats' new contract from February set his buyout at north of $12 million.

Other names/jobs of interest in that article:
quote:
South Carolina: This one is interesting. Frank Martin took South Carolina to the Final Four just five seasons ago, and finished above .500 in the SEC in four of his last five seasons before the 2020-21 campaign. But Martin has been linked to a number of high-major openings in recent years, and that Final Four was also his only NCAA tournament appearance since arriving in Columbia back in 2012. He's owed around $6 million, but could both sides just decide to part ways and move on?
quote:
Vanderbilt: Jerry Stackhouse dug his heels in in February, when he told The Athletic: "They could fire me. But I ain't giving money back." It's only year two of a six-year deal, and while the Commodores aren't winning a lot of games, opposing coaches have been impressed by the stuff they run. I don't see them paying Stackhouse to leave after just two seasons.
quote:
Eric Musselman, Arkansas: If Minnesota opens, Musselman will likely be one of the first calls. He grew up in Minneapolis and his father, Bill, coached both the Gophers and Timberwolves. The question is whether Minnesota could offer enough money to get Musselman to leave what he's building in Fayetteville.
quote:
Frank Martin, South Carolina: New Mexico likely won't happen, but could Martin try to get involved at DePaul or Boston College? The Miami native would also be a logical candidate should the Hurricanes job open.

If Yurachek let Musselman go by not outbidding Minnesota. I would genuinely be worried about his safety.

Money aside, do you think Muss has any real interest in the Minnesota job?

Alabama completes 3-sport Auburn sweep for first time since 1970s
quote:
The 70-58 win over the Tigers completed not only the men’s basketball season sweep but one that includes football and women’s basketball. The Crimson Tide took both women’s hoops games earlier this year and the Iron Bowl in Bryant-Denny Stadium to complete the circuit.
The last time that happened?
Try 1977-78. That’s 43 years.
It’s only the third time Alabama’s gone unbeaten against its intra-state archrival in those three sports. The other came a year before the last one in 1976-77 though it’s come close to sweeping in the years since.
The 2014-15 teams had a 4-1 record with one women’s basketball loss keeping it from ending that streak.
Auburn has one sweep in that span when winning all five meetings in the 2006-07 seasons.
quote:
The Tide is actually unbeaten against Auburn in seven head-to-head matchups in NCAA-sanctioned sports including gymnastics and women’s soccer. After connecting those dots, we wanted to see when the last time Alabama went undefeated against Auburn, so the two basketballs and football became the starting point.
Since the women’s hoops series officially began in 1974-75, that was the starting point.
Combining all three sports, Alabama has a 131-109 edge in head-to-head competition against Auburn since 1974. The Tide was 1-5 against the Tigers as recently as 2018-19 with a football win as the only barrier to an Auburn sweep after the Tigers took both men’s basketball games and three on the women’s side.

Money aside, do you think Muss has any real interest in the Minnesota job?
Muss's dad was only at Minnesota for 4 years when Muss was 7-11 years old and when his dad was with the Timberwolves, Muss was already coaching himself. He spend like two years there as an assistant later with his dad. Don't think there is some strong connection. If Minnesota was considered a better job than Arkansas in general, I might be more worried.
I would be more worried if a big job in California came open, he will occasionally mention that place in a positive memory. He has been all over the country though, so not really sure just one place really feels "home" to him.

I think I agree with you on that. Arkansas is a better job imo, is probably willing to pay more and the ties to Minnesota don't sound overwhelming to me.
